Product description
This set of a blue glass medicine bottle 50 ml and a glossy white and gold pump is ready to be filled with face serums, oils and light emulsions. Blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which helps with formulations containing vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils that lose their properties faster in light. The pump with a dip tube draws the product from the bottom of the bottle and releases a small, repeatable amount with each press. The contents are dispensed without unscrewing anything and without fingers touching the product. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; it is not intended for food.
What the set is suitable for
- Face serums – the pump draws up water-based and oil-based serums of low to medium viscosity without any problem, and one press delivers an amount that can be spread over the face without waste.
- Face, body and hair oils – darker glass helps slow down changes in the oil caused by light, and the pump prevents spills and overflow during use.
- Light emulsions and fluids – liquid face lotions, low-viscosity fluids and eye serums are dispensed precisely. With thicker textures, test how the pump behaves before you fill a larger number of bottles.
- Beard and cuticle oils – the small volume of the bottle and the small dose suit products where only a few drops are applied each day.
How the pump works
The pump is made of a combination of plastic (PP) and aluminium, and its surface has a glossy white and gold finish. The dip tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so the contents can be used up without tilting. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml. The value is indicative; the actual amount depends on the viscosity of the product and on how fully you press the pump. When using it for the first time, press it several times to prime it until the tube and the chamber fill.
Whether dispensing works depends on the consistency of the product. The pump handles water-based solutions, oils and liquid emulsions. Thick creams, heavily thickened gels and products with solid particles (scrubs, grainy masks) will not pass through the tube or will clog it.
The pump is not intended for thick creams or products containing particles. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, test its behaviour first on a single bottle.
Nominal and total volume
The bottle has a nominal volume of 50 ml. This is the amount it is designed for in normal filling. The total brim-full volume given in the parameters is larger, because it corresponds to the physical volume up to the neck. The difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube of the pump, which displaces part of the volume, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it were filled up to the neck, the product would be pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse and dry the pump; residual water would dilute the first doses.
- Glass and heat – pour only cooled contents into the bottle. Sudden changes in temperature are not good for glass, and a hot emulsion can change the behaviour of the plastic parts of the pump.
- Water-based products – toners, hydrosols and water-based serums must be preserved regardless of the packaging. The pump limits contact of the contents with air and fingers, but it does not replace preservation.
- Reuse – the glass bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. A pump with a dip tube is harder to clean. If the previous product cannot be thoroughly removed from it, replace it.
- Other closures – the bottle can also be used with other closures with the same neck finish, which is given in the parameters. You can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – the bottle goes in glass recycling. The pump is made of plastic and aluminium and should be separated from the bottle before disposal.
Before filling a larger batch, pour the product into one bottle and leave it with the pump for several days. You will find out whether it dispenses evenly, whether it leaks through the thread and whether the contents have separated in the tube.
