Product description

A serum, face oil or light emulsion is dispensed from this bottle with a press, without opening the packaging and without fingers touching the contents. The set of a blue glass medicine bottle with a plastic pump is intended for serums, face oils, light emulsions and body lotions that are used in small amounts. Blue glass filters out part of the light, but contents that are sensitive to light should still be stored out of direct sunlight. The pump with a dip tube draws the contents up from the very bottom, so the bottle can be emptied almost completely without tapping it.

A volume of 100 ml lasts several weeks for a face serum, or is enough for a smaller batch of body oil. Both parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

How the set works

  • Bottle – a blue glass medicine bottle with an 18 mm neck. Glass does not react with common cosmetic raw materials and does not absorb fragrances, so it also suits scented oils and products with a higher alcohol content.
  • Pump – a plastic pump with a white and gold glossy head and a dip tube reaching the bottom of the bottle. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which corresponds to a small dose of facial serum. For body lotion, two to three presses are enough.
  • Hygiene in use – the contents are dispensed directly onto your fingers or palm, and nothing returns to the bottle. This is an advantage for products with a low preservative dose and for oils without a water phase.

What it is suited for

The pump works best with contents of liquid to medium-thick consistency: face and hair serums, dry oils for body and hair, light moisturising emulsions, body lotions, leave-in conditioners or oil cleansers. Thick creams, butters and gels with high viscosity are either not drawn up by the pump or are dispensed unevenly. Fill a thicker emulsion into one bottle first as a test, and check whether the pump still works smoothly after a few days.

Water-based toners and hydrosols can also be dispensed through the pump, but a fine mist sprayer is usually more suitable for them. The set is not intended for food.

Oils with a high proportion of essential oils, limonene or solvents can affect the plastic parts of the pump and the dip tube over the long term. For such formulations, let the filled set stand for several weeks and check the tightness and function of the pump before you use it for the whole batch.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The total brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for slight expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents will overflow through the neck when the pump is fitted.

Good to know when filling

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. For the pump, it is enough to rinse it with clean alcohol and pump it dry so that no liquid remains in the tube. After screwing on the pump, you usually need to press the head several times until the tube fills and the contents start to come out.

Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature. Do not pour a hot emulsion or oil phase straight from the hob into a cold bottle; first cool it to room temperature while stirring. If you reuse the bottle, wash and disinfect it thoroughly. A pump with a dip tube is harder to clean, so replace it when you change the formulation, or at least pump alcohol through it.

The pump and the bottle in the set fit each other. If you want to use the bottle with a different closure, choose according to the neck type given in the parameters, and verify the tightness with a test using your specific formulation. You can find ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range.

Once empty, the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The pump contains plastic and aluminium, so it is sorted separately from glass according to local rules for mixed packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Can a thick cream be dispensed through the pump on the 100 ml glass bottle?
No, thick creams and butters are not drawn up reliably by a pump with a dip tube. It is designed for liquid to medium-thick contents such as serums, oils, body lotions and light emulsions. Test a thicker emulsion in one bottle first. For thick creams and butters, a jar or container from which the contents are scooped is more suitable.
How much of the contents remains in the bottle when the pump no longer dispenses?
The tube reaches almost to the bottom, so only a thin layer remains along the wall and at the bottom of the bottle, approximately a few millilitres. The last remainder can be poured out after unscrewing the pump. With thicker contents, more stays on the walls than with a liquid oil, so for body lotion expect a somewhat larger residue.
Is the 100 ml glass bottle with a pump suitable for alcohol-based toners and tinctures?
Yes, the glass itself is suitable even for contents with a high alcohol content. The pump is made of plastic and aluminium, so for strongly alcoholic or solvent-based formulations we recommend testing the tightness and function after several weeks. Water-based toners and hydrosols can be dispensed through the pump, but a fine mist sprayer is more convenient for them.
To what volume should the glass bottle with a pump be filled?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck is taken up by the dip tube and the lower part of the pump, and it also serves as a reserve for when the contents expand in the heat. If you fill it to the brim, the contents will leak out through the thread when the pump is screwed on and soil the neck and the head.
Can I reuse the glass bottle with a pump?
Yes, after thorough washing and disinfection with alcohol, the glass bottle can be filled repeatedly. A pump with a dip tube is harder to clean, and residues remain in it with oils and emulsions, so pump ethanol through it when you change the formulation, or replace it with a new one. Do not pour new contents into a badly dried bottle, because residual water does not belong in an anhydrous oil formulation.
