A ready-to-use set consisting of a clear PET bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a white fine-mist sprayer. What the set is suitable for

The sprayer works reliably with contents of low viscosity: aqueous solutions, hydrolats, facial tonics with active ingredients, refreshing sprays, micellar waters, hair sprays with botanical extracts, rinse-free conditioners of thin consistency, or fabric and room sprays. It can also be used for thin alcohol-based preparations, such as hand sanitiser sprays or refreshers containing ethanol. At higher concentrations of alcohol and essential oils, we recommend testing the packaging behaviour with the specific formula.

The sprayer is not intended for thick emulsions, creams, oils or products containing a thickener. The nozzle will clog or the contents will come out as a stream rather than a mist. For such products, a pump bottle or jar is more suitable.

How to use the set

Before first use, wash and disinfect both the bottle and the sprayer with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water would dilute the preparation and reduce the effectiveness of preservation.

The dip tube of the sprayer is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, trim it with a sharp knife or scissors so that it reaches just to the bottom – this allows the sprayer to empty the contents with almost no residue. An angled cut at the end of the tube helps with suction when the level is low.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The headspace in the neck is needed by the dip tube of the sprayer, air and any potential expansion of the contents. When filled to the brim, the contents spill out when screwing on the cap and the sprayer draws in air.

After filling, tighten the sprayer securely and press several times before the first spray until the dip tube is primed. With a custom formula, we recommend leaving the filled set to stand for a few days and checking for leaks, any colour change of the contents, or softening of the plastic.

Good to know

Contact with cosmetics and food. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products and both components meet the relevant regulatory requirements. Only the bottle individually holds a certificate for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not, so do not use the set as a whole for food purposes.

Heat and hot filling. PET is not suitable for filling with hot contents or for heat sterilisation – the bottle may deform. Allow the preparation to cool to room temperature before filling.

Light. Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. If the formula contains photosensitive substances, such as certain vitamins or botanical extracts, store the filled set away from direct sunlight or choose a brown or blue bottle.

Essential oils and solvents. Thin aqueous sprays with essential oils solubilised in the formula are generally well tolerated by PET. Concentrated essential oils, strong solvents and aggressive chemicals may soften the plastic or affect its clarity – test suitability for such contents on a single piece beforehand.

Reuse. Once emptied, the set can be washed, disinfected and refilled. When changing the preparation, flush the sprayer with clean water by spraying it through several times so that no residue of the previous contents remains in the tube and nozzle.

Label. The cylindrical shape of the bottle makes label application straightforward. For alcohol-based sprays, choose an alcohol-resistant label, otherwise the print will smear.

Recycling. The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of polypropylene. Before disposal, separate them from each other and place them in sorted plastic waste.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 100 ml plastic bottle with sprayer suitable for a hydrolat or facial tonic?

Yes, thin aqueous preparations such as hydrolats and tonics are the most suitable contents for this set. The sprayer disperses them into a fine mist that spreads evenly over the skin. Since it is an aqueous preparation, it must be properly preserved and the bottle should be disinfected before filling.

Can I fill the PET bottle with sprayer with oil or an oil serum?

No, this set is not recommended for oils or oil serums. The sprayer is designed for liquids of low viscosity and oil will come out unevenly or clog the nozzle. A dropper bottle or pump bottle, available in the Handymade range, is more suitable for oil-based preparations.

Why should the 100 ml bottle not be filled to the brim?

Because the nominal volume of the bottle is less than its total capacity up to the neck and the difference serves as a headspace. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed to hold during normal filling. When filled to the brim, the dip tube of the sprayer pushes some of the contents out, the preparation reaches the thread and the set may leak. Fill to the nominal volume and leave air in the neck.

Is the bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?

No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle individually holds a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not have this assessment. The set is intended for cosmetic products and both its components are declared suitable for this purpose.

Can the bottle with sprayer be used for an alcohol-based disinfectant spray?

Yes, thin alcohol-based preparations can be sprayed using this set. However, at a high proportion of alcohol or with added essential oils, we recommend checking the seal and the condition of the plastic after a few days of storage. Choose an alcohol-resistant label.

How to clean the sprayer when reusing?

Flush the sprayer by screwing it onto a bottle of clean water and spraying through several times, then repeat with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry. Wash the bottle, disinfect it and allow it to dry completely before the next fill. With contents that tend to dry out, such as those with extracts or sugars, flush the sprayer immediately after emptying.
