How the set works and what it is suitable for

The bottle is made of PET, the atomizer of PP. Both materials handle aqueous solutions, hydrolats, glycerín and common concentrations of alcohol well, making them suitable for most tonics, mists, and alcoholic sprays. The atomizer has a dip tube that reaches to the bottom of the bottle, and the contents are dispensed mechanically without a propellant gas. Each press releases a fraction of a milliliter, so the product is applied evenly and without dripping.

Atomizers of this type are designed for thin liquids. Pure oils, thick emulsions, or serums with a higher proportion of thickeners spray poorly through them; the nozzle clogs and the dose is irregular. For thick products, a different closure for the same neck type is more suitable, such as a pump or dropper. For formulations containing oily components, solubilized essential oils, or a higher proportion of surfactants, we recommend testing the spray on a small sample before filling the entire batch.

Nominal and total volume

For every container, we distinguish two values. The nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed for normal filling and which is stated on the label. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the atomizer, which take up some space once fitted, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will leak through the neck when the atomizer is screwed on, or will remain trapped in the thread where it may spoil.

What is good to know when filling

Before the first filling, we recommend washing and disinfecting both the bottle and the atomizer, for example with izopropylalkohol or etanol, and letting them dry completely. This also applies to the dip tube and the inside of the nozzle: push several doses of disinfectant solution and then clean water through the atomizer so that no residues remain inside.

Both parts can be used repeatedly if thoroughly cleaned after emptying. When switching products, especially from an alcoholic to an aqueous one or from a colored to a clear one, be aware that the internal parts of the atomizer may briefly retain residual fragrance or color.

Aqueous and hydrolat formulations intended for spraying require reliable preservation. With each press, air is drawn into the bottle and the dip tube remains in constant contact with the contents, so spray packaging does not in itself protect against microbial contamination.

Both the bottle and the atomizer can be recycled. As they are two different types of plastic, separate them before disposal and sort them according to the material indicated in the product parameters. When labeling, allow for the cylindrical shape of the medicine vial.
