Coco-Caprylate/Caprate is a light, “dry” vegetable emollient – a mixture of esters formed by esterification of fatty alcohols from coconut oil with caprylic and capric acids (C8/C10). In cosmetics it is used as a modern alternative to silicones: it improves spreadability, reduces the greasy feel and gives the product a pleasant, velvety slip without a heavy film.

  • Recommended dosage: as a guideline 2–20 % depending on product type (lower for light face/body creams, higher for balms and oil-based products).
  • Technological notes: add to the oil phase; helps improve sensoriality even with a higher content of heavy butters and waxes.

    • Avoid contact with eyes; in case of contact, rinse with water.
    • Follow normal hygiene practices during handling and use clean tools.
    • Store in a well-closed container, in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

    Is Coco-Caprylate/Caprate suitable as a replacement for silicones in hair products?

    Yes, it is often used to enhance slip and the feel of “smoothed” hair. However, it does not behave identically to silicones – the result depends on the overall formula and hair type.


    Can it reduce the “greasy” feel in products with a higher oil content?

    Yes, it belongs among emollients that significantly improve the sensorial profile of oil blends and help create a drier, lighter finish.


    Will it affect the stability of an emulsion if I add it to a cream?

    It can change the viscosity and behaviour of the oil phase. At higher dosage it is advisable to verify stability (heat/cold cycles, centrifuge) and, if necessary, adjust the emulsifier or fat content.


    Is it suitable for lip balms and sticks?

    Yes, it improves slip and comfort during application. In sticks, however, it may soften the structure, so it is advisable to fine-tune the ratio of waxes and hard butters.


    Is this emollient also suitable for oilier or acne-prone skin?

    It is often used in light emulsions and “dry” oils, but suitability depends on individual tolerance and the overall composition. For problematic skin it is recommended to test the finished product on a smaller area first.
