Product description

Floral water, hydrosol, jasmine is a gentle aromatic aqueous cosmetic raw material obtained by steam distillation of jasmine flowers. During distillation, water vapour passes through the plant material, releasing water-soluble aromatic components and trace amounts of volatile substances which, after condensation, remain in the aqueous phase – the hydrosol. In cosmetics, jasmine is valued mainly for its sensual floral fragrance, pleasant sensory profile and suitability for products intended for dry, mature, tired, sensitive or comfort‑seeking skin.
Compared to essential oils and absolutes, the hydrosol is significantly milder, aqueous and easy to incorporate into cosmetic formulations. It is used as the aqueous phase, facial toner, aromatic component or hydrating base in products where it is intended to support freshness, skin softness and a pleasant feel during application.

Key benefits

  • Gentle aromatic aqueous raw material – suitable for facial, body and hair cosmetics.
  • Supports comfort of dry and mature skin – suitable for formulations aimed at softening the sensation of skin tightness.
  • Pleasant floral scent – gives products an elegant, slightly sweet and feminine sensory character without the need for strong perfuming.
  • Suitable as part of the aqueous phase – can partially or completely replace distilled water in selected formulations.
  • Refreshing effect during application – suitable for facial mists, toners and light hydrating products.
  • Good tolerance in aqueous formulations – practical raw material for creams, gels, serums, masks and rinse‑off cosmetics.

Suitable for products such as

  • facial toners, tonics and facial mists for dry, mature, sensitive or tired skin,
  • hydrating gels and serums with aloe vera, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol or allantoin,
  • creams, facial milks and body milks as part of the aqueous phase,
  • clay and powder masks to be mixed immediately before use,
  • body sprays and gentle aromatic waters with a floral profile,
  • hair tonics, shampoos and conditioners for subtle fragrancing and a fresh feel on the scalp,
  • products used after bathing, showering or sun exposure, where the formulation is designed to be soothing and hydrating,
  • massage emulsions and body creams where a delicate floral scent is desired.

Use in formulation

  • Recommended dosage: usually 1 – 100 % depending on the product type; it can form part of or the entire aqueous phase.
  • Soluble in: water and aqueous cosmetic systems.
  • Miscible with: distilled water, glycerin, propanediol, aloe vera juice, hydrogels and water‑soluble active ingredients.
  • Compatible with: oil‑in‑water emulsions, facial toners, gels, serums, shampoos, shower gels and rinse‑off hair products.
  • Emulsion products: incorporate into the aqueous phase; for emulsions that are heated, it is advisable to add part of the hydrosol only during the cooling phase to reduce unnecessary overheating of aromatic components.
  • It is recommended to add during cooling (at a temperature below 40 °C).
  • Preservation: when used in your own formulation, it is necessary to assess the preservation system of the entire finished product, especially for products with a high water content.
  • Formulation pH: always measure the final pH in the finished product and adjust it according to the preservative used, active substances and the target cosmetic type.

Safety and storage

  • Intended for cosmetic use and for further processing in cosmetic formulations.
  • For sensitive skin or first‑time use, we recommend carrying out a patch test on a small area of skin.
  • Prevent contamination of the contents – use clean tools, close the container immediately after use and do not pour back raw material that has already been taken out.
  • Store in a well‑closed container, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • Storage in a cool, dry and dark place is suitable; hydrosols are aqueous raw materials sensitive to microbial contamination.
  • When manufacturing the finished cosmetic product, always verify the final pH, microbiological stability and suitability of the preservation system.

FAQ

Can jasmine hydrosol replace perfume in cosmetics?

In lightly perfumed or unperfumed formulations, it can contribute to the fragrance of the product, but it does not replace a full‑value perfuming or a fragrance composition. Its scent is naturally gentler and less long‑lasting than that of concentrated fragrance substances.

Is jasmine hydrosol suitable for summer products?

Yes, it is suitable for light facial mists, body sprays and hydrating gels. For summer products, it is important to choose appropriate packaging, hygienic dispensing and reliable preservation of the formulation.

Can it be used in hair care products?

Yes, it is suitable for hair tonics, shampoos, conditioners and rinse‑off hair waters. In the formulation, it can contribute to a subtle fragrance and a more pleasant feel when applied to the scalp.

Can jasmine hydrosol be combined with plant extracts?

Yes, in the aqueous phase it can be combined with many water‑soluble plant extracts. However, it is always necessary to check the recommended pH, dosage and compatibility of the extract with the preservative.

Is it also suitable for cosmetics without essential oils?

Yes, it can be a practical choice in formulations where you do not want to use essential oils but still want to maintain a gentle plant‑derived aromatic character of the product.

Can it be added to a finished cream?

It is not recommended to arbitrarily mix hydrosol into an already finished and preserved cream, because this changes the ratio of water, preservative and pH. Without recalculating the formulation and verifying stability, a reduction in microbiological safety may occur.
