Grape Seed Oil, Cold Pressed, Organic, 100 ml

Grapeseed oil is a light vegetable oil cold-pressed from the seeds of the grapevine (Vitis vinifera) in certified organic quality, without heat and without chemical solvents. It spreads and absorbs quickly on the skin and does not leave a greasy film. It is therefore suitable where heavier oils would get in the way: in facial oils for combination and oily skin, light body emulsions, massage blends and hair serums.

In a formulation it simultaneously acts as an emollient, carrier and antioxidant. It softens the skin and serves as a base in which essential oils, oil extracts and other oil-based active ingredients dissolve. It can also be used on its own, without further processing.

• Hair and scalp – conditions, adds shine and helps tame frizzy ends. It does not weigh down fine hair or hair prone to oiliness.

Fatty acid composition

The oil is built primarily on linoleic acid, which according to the specification makes up 55 – 81 % of the fatty acids. Oleic acid is present in the range of 10 – 33 %, saturated palmitic and stearic acids together 7 – 19 %. The ratio varies between batches within the stated ranges, so do not treat specific values as fixed numbers.

The oil is unrefined. The colour ranges from light yellow through green to a darker greenish-brown; the scent is natural, mildly nutty. Take this into account when designing light-coloured recipes.

Use in formulation

The oil belongs in the oil phase and blends freely with other vegetable oils, butters, waxes and esters. The recommended processing temperature is below 40 °C. If the recipe requires a hot process, add it only during the cooling phase or incorporate it into the finished base afterwards.

Dosage ranges from 1 to 100 %. In standalone facial and body oils and massage blends it forms the base; in emulsions it is commonly used at lower percentages alongside other emollients. It is suitable for both rinse-off and leave-on products.

In aromatherapy and massage preparations it serves as a carrier oil for diluting essential oils. In cold-process soap it is used as part of the oil blend; verify its behaviour in your specific recipe on a test batch.

• Facial oils and serums – on its own or as the base of an oil blend for combination, oily and acne-prone skin.
• Light creams and body lotions – softens without a heavy feel on the skin.
• Massage and body oils – as a carrier for essential oils, also in combination with other oils.
• Hair oils and serums for ends – for fine, dry and damaged hair as well as hair prone to oiliness.
• After-sun preparations, balms, hand and foot creams – according to the manufacturer's recommendations these are among the suitable application types.
• Shower and bath oils, soaps – as a softening ingredient.

Good to know

• It does not dissolve in water. To incorporate it into a toner, hydrosol or water-based spray you will need a solubiliser, otherwise it will separate.
• In an anhydrous product it does not require a preservative. Emulsions containing water must be preserved in the usual way.
• It is vegan, not tested on animals, free from allergenic fragrance ingredients and free from palm oil. According to CLP it is not classified as hazardous, so no safety data sheet is required.
