Product description
This amber glass medicine bottle with a black and silver dropper, 30 ml, is used for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic products that are applied by the drop. The amber glass protects the contents from light, so it is particularly suitable for face serums, face oils, oil blends with essential oils, tinctures or concentrated active ingredients where the exact amount matters. The length of the dropper is matched to the height of the bottle, the tube reaches the bottom and the contents can be drawn out almost to the last drop. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
Suitable uses
- Face serums – both water-based and oil-based, where usually only a few drops are applied.
- Face and hair oils – the dropper lets you dispense a small amount directly onto your palm or into your hair.
- Oil blends with essential oils – dark glass slows the degradation of light-sensitive ingredients.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol and the dropper allows you to dispense drop by drop.
- Samples and test batches – the 30 ml volume is also sufficient for smaller batches when fine-tuning a recipe.
How the dropper dispenses
The dropper consists of a glass tube with a narrow tip, a silicone squeeze bulb and a black and silver collar that screws onto the 18/410 neck finish. Squeezing the bulb draws in the liquid and releasing it dispenses drop by drop. With thin oils and water-based serums, dispensing is smooth. Thicker serums with a higher content of thickeners may be drawn into the dropper more slowly and the drops tend to be larger, so check how the dropper behaves with your particular formulation before filling the whole batch.
After filling, tighten the dropper by hand so that the collar sits firmly on the neck. When the bottle is turned upside down, the contents may not be fully secured against leaking, so transport the bottles upright and check the seal in advance.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity listed in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which displaces part of the contents when screwed in. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, the contents will overflow once the dropper is fitted.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. No residual water should remain in the bottle, especially if you are filling anhydrous oil-based products.
Good to know
- Protection from light – amber glass dampens light, but it does not replace an antioxidant or preservative in the formulation. Store products sensitive to oxidation away from direct sunlight regardless.
- Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes. Fill emulsions and serums only after they have cooled.
- Silicone bulb – with concentrated essential oils and solvents, check whether the material of the bulb softens or changes shape over time. With ordinary face oils and serums this does not usually occur.
- Reuse – the glass can be used again after thorough washing and disinfection. The dropper is harder to take apart, so consider replacing it with a new one when you change the contents.
- The food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle on its own. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
- Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass recycling, while the dropper is made of several materials. Before disposal, separate the glass tube from the collar and the bulb.
The bottle and the dropper have the same 18/410 neck finish. You can find other closures with this neck finish and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you combine components yourself, check the seal and dispensing with your particular formulation.
