Product description
The glass bottle with cream pump in a volume of 30 ml is a ready-to-fill set for creams, facial emulsions, thicker serums and gels. The amber glass bottle protects the contents from light, which is appreciated in formulations containing vegetable oils, vitamins or extracts sensitive to light. The black cream pump dispenses a small, repeatable dose with each press, so the product does not need to be scooped out with fingers or poured. The set is particularly suitable for eye creams, concentrated serums with a creamy texture, night creams, facial emulsions, and for testing or travel-size packaging, where 30 ml is a practical size.
Why a bottle with a pump
- Light protection – amber glass reduces visible light and part of UV radiation, making it suitable for formulations where light shortens stability (unrefined oils, antioxidants, essential oils).
- Hygienic dispensing – the contents are neither poured nor scooped from the bottle, so less contamination enters the packaging during use compared to a jar.
- Controlled dosing – one press releases a small dose, which suits concentrated products where a small amount is enough for the whole face.
- Non-reactive glass – glass does not react with oils, essential oils or alcoholic components; the contents do not absorb odours from it, nor does it absorb from the contents.
- Black top – the dark pump complements amber glass and minimalist labels.
What the set is suitable for
The cream pump is designed for creamy and gel textures: light to medium-density emulsions, cream serums, gels with carbomer or xanthan, eye creams and facial masks with a more fluid consistency. With very thin aqueous preparations (tonics, hydrolats) the pump may dispense unevenly or the contents may flow back through the tube when the bottle is tilted. Very firm formulations (wax-based balms, thick anhydrous butters) will not be dispensed by the pump. It is therefore advisable to test the consistency directly in this set during formula development.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not. Therefore, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, not for food use.
The tube pump is not an airless system. With each press, air enters the bottle, so formulations with an aqueous phase require effective preservation, and an antioxidant will help with oil-based preparations.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount for which the bottle is designed for normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference is a reserve for the tube and pump body, which take up some space when fitted, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will overflow through the neck when screwing on the pump, contaminating the thread.
How to prepare and use the set
Before first filling, the bottle and pump are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Any moisture remaining in the tube would enter the first dose of the product.
The pump tube is supplied longer so it can be adapted to different bottles. Before fitting, it is cut so that it ends just above the bottom of the bottle, preferably with a diagonal cut that prevents suction to the base. After filling, the pump is screwed on and pressed several times empty until the tube is primed and the product begins to dispense evenly.
The set can be reused. The bottle needs to be washed and disinfected. The pump is rinsed with warm water containing a small amount of mild surfactant, clean water is pushed through it with several presses, and it is left to dry. If residues from creams with a high wax content have solidified in the pump, it may not be possible to clean it completely, and a new pump is safer for a new batch.
The pump is made of polypropylene. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, limonene or solvents, we recommend checking before filling a larger batch whether the material softens over time and the seal holds.
Good to know
- Residue at the bottom – the tube does not pick up the very last millilitres, which is normal for pumps. Account for this in the declared volume with more expensive serums.
- Label – the flat cylindrical surface of the bottle labels well.
- Glass and temperature – do not fill the bottle with hot emulsion straight from the production vessel. Let the formulation cool to at least lukewarm temperature; a sudden temperature change stresses the glass.
- Closures – the pump in the set is matched to the bottle neck. Further closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
- Recycling – the bottle goes in glass recycling, the pump in plastics. Separate them before disposal.
