A black glossy glass bottle with a white dropper is a complete packaging and closure set for cosmetics that need to be dispensed drop by drop while also being protected from light. What the set consists of and how to work with it

The bottle has the shape of a vial with a narrow neck and straight sides that are easy to label and stand stably. The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb, and a plastic collar with a thread. When screwed on, it seals the bottle neck and the tube reaches almost to the bottom, so the contents can be drawn out to the very end. Dispensing is done by squeezing the bulb one drop at a time, without the contents coming into contact with hands.

Glass is chemically resistant and does not react with vegetable oils, essential oils, alcoholic tinctures, or aqueous solutions. It is therefore also suitable for contents that would damage plastic packaging over time or penetrate it with their scent.

What it is suitable for

• Facial serums – water-based and oil-based, where precise dosing and protection of active ingredients from light matter.
• Facial, hair and nail oils – vegetable oils prone to oxidation, such as rosehip, lingonberry or hemp.
• Essential oil blends – concentrates, fragrance compositions for dilution, and aromatherapy blends.
• Oil extracts and tinctures – alcoholic and glycerin-based, where a small amount needs to be drawn out without unnecessary opening of the packaging.
• Oil cleansers and hair-end serums – products where dropping directly into the palm is more practical than a pump.

Good to know

When choosing packaging, distinguish between nominal volume and total brim-full volume. Nominal volume is the amount for which the packaging is intended under normal filling conditions. Total brim-full volume is the physical space up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which when screwed on displaces some of the contents upward, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature change. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Opaque glass has one practical disadvantage: the fill level is not visible. In retail this is addressed by the volume information on the label; for home production, simply shake or weigh the packaging occasionally. The glossy black surface also shows fingerprints more noticeably than a matte finish, which is more of an aesthetic than a functional property.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Pour contents into it cooled to room temperature, not the hot oil phase directly from a water bath. The silicone bulb of the dropper is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. With contents containing a very high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking whether the bulb softens over time and whether the seal holds.

The bottle can be used repeatedly. When recycling, separate the dropper from the bottle: glass goes into glass recycling, the dropper is a combination of plastic, silicone and glass.
