Product description
A glass dropper bottle, 50 ml, in a black glossy finish is a ready-made complete set for filling serums, facial oils, tinctures and concentrated active blends. Black glass blocks light from reaching the contents, protecting sensitive ingredients – plant oils, vitamins, essential oils and botanical extracts – from light-induced oxidation. The dropper allows precise drop-by-drop dosing, which is especially appreciated for concentrated products where only a few drops are applied at a time.
The set consists of a vial-shaped bottle and a black matte dropper with a glossy stripe. The glossy body and matte cap together create a simple, cohesive look that works without a label as well as with labels in dark or contrasting colours.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial serums – water-based and oil-based preparations with active ingredients, dosed drop by drop and requiring protection from light.
- Facial and hair oils – blends of plant oils, oils with vitamin E or coenzyme Q10, where dark glass slows yellowing and the scent changes that accompany it.
- Beard oils and cuticle oils – small doses applied directly to the area of application.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is stable against ethanol and the dropper allows measuring a dose without a measuring cup.
- Concentrates – active blends that are added to a cream or serum drop by drop.
The set is not suitable for thin tonics or emulsions intended for spraying – for these products a bottle with a spray pump is a better choice.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for during standard filling and corresponds to the declared volume of the finished product. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference is made up of the reserve for the dropper, which takes up some space after screwing in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – if overfilled, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the dropper is fitted. The exact values of both volumes are listed in the specifications.
For oil-based products, leave sufficient headspace below the neck. Oils expand in heat and the glass tube of the dropper takes up some of the volume – otherwise oil will be pushed out onto the thread when closing and the cap will stick.
How the dropper works
The dropper consists of a screw cap, a silicone bulb and a glass tube that reaches to the bottom of the bottle. Squeezing the bulb draws in the contents; releasing and squeezing again dispenses them drop by drop. Drop size depends on the viscosity and surface tension of the product – a thin water-based serum forms smaller drops than a thick oil, and thicker gels are harder to draw up through the tube. For products with higher viscosity, it is advisable to test the dropper behaviour before filling an entire batch.
The silicone bulb tolerates most common cosmetic ingredients. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend verifying the long-term behaviour of the bulb with the specific formulation – some ingredients may soften or discolour the silicone over time.
Good to know
- Contact with cosmetics – both the bottle and the dropper are declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products; the complete set is intended for cosmetics. The declaration of conformity is available with the product.
- Contact with food – the glass bottle alone holds a food-contact certificate. The dropper does not, so the complete set is not intended for food use.
- Preparation before filling – before first use, wash the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. The dropper only needs to be rinsed with ethanol and dried; water must not enter the bulb and remain inside.
- Glass and heat – glass cannot withstand sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle and do not cool a filled bottle rapidly.
- Reuse – the bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. The dropper is more difficult to clean; when changing products or after use with oily contents, we recommend replacing it with a new one.
- Labelling – on black glossy glass, labels in light or metallic colours are the most legible, as are transparent labels with light printing.
- Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass recycling; the dropper is made of multiple materials and should be sorted separately.
Caps with the same neck type as listed in the specifications, and further ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. When creating your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal and the cap's behaviour with your specific formulation.
Black glass does not show how much content remains in the bottle, nor any changes in the appearance of the product. Bear this in mind when selecting packaging for products where visual inspection of the contents is important.
