Product description
Black glossy glass bottle with a cream pump dispenser is a ready-to-fill set for creams, facial emulsions and thicker serums with a volume of 50 ml. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light, making it particularly suitable for formulations with active ingredients sensitive to light and oxidation – containing vitamin C, retinoids, plant oils or extracts. The dispenser with a black top delivers the contents in small doses without having to dip fingers into the product, which is both practical and hygienic for creams with mild preservation.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct food contact; the complete set with the pump dispenser is intended for cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
- Day and night creams – the dispenser delivers an amount suitable for one facial application.
- Eye and facial creams with active ingredients – opaque glass blocks the light that accelerates the breakdown of sensitive components.
- Thicker serums and gel creams – provided the formulation has a consistency that can be pumped through the tube and dispenser head.
- Body creams in travel size – 50 ml is a suitable volume for trial and gift versions of formulations.
The set works as a unit: the glass bottle has a narrow neck onto which the dispenser is screwed, the tube reaches to the bottom, and pressing the head draws the contents upward. The head is plastic, the bottle body is glass – both parts share the same black colour, so the packaging looks cohesive even without a label.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for during normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference accounts for the tube and dispenser body, which occupy part of the inner space when screwed on, and for slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will be pushed out through the neck when the dispenser is fitted. Exact values for both volumes can be found in the product parameters.
What is good to know when filling
The dispenser works reliably with cream consistency – O/W and W/O emulsions that can be spread easily. With very thick formulations (butters, balms, thick W/O creams with a high wax content) the head may fail to draw the contents or dispenses them intermittently. Conversely, with very thin serums and tonics the contents may flow from the head without pressing. The suitability of a given consistency is best verified on a small sample before filling the entire batch.
The dispenser tube is longer than the inside of the bottle. Before first filling, trim it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom – the dispenser will then draw out the last remaining contents and the tube will not bend when screwing on.
After screwing on the dispenser, the head needs to be pressed several times without dispensing until the system fills and begins dispensing contents. The dispenser is not airless, so a small amount of air enters the bottle with each press. With aqueous emulsions, therefore, account for proper preservation as with any open packaging. The light attenuation of the black glass protects the contents against photodegradation, not against microbial contamination.
Black glass is opaque, so you cannot see the fill level. To know how much cream remains, go by the weight of the packaging or the number of doses. For customers it is useful to state an approximate dose count on the label.
Before first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with alcohol (IPA or ethanol) and let it dry completely. Rinse the dispenser with warm water and let it drip dry. The inside of the head cannot be dried completely, so do not rinse it with water immediately before filling an anhydrous formulation.
The dispenser head is made of polypropylene, which is resistant to common cosmetic ingredients. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend verifying the dispenser's behaviour with a longer test – sealing, head action and any changes to the material. Glass itself tolerates essential oils, alcohol and oily components without change.
Reuse and recycling
The glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When changing formulations, it is advisable to replace the dispenser, as residues of the previous contents in the tube and head cannot be completely removed. When disposing, separate the glass from the plastic dispenser – glass goes into glass collection, the dispenser into plastics.
Closures with the same neck type (stated in the parameters) and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dosage and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
