Black glass bottle with spray pump is a complete packaging and closure set for thin, watery formulations: facial mists, tonics, hydrolats, refreshing body sprays, hair sprays with hydrolat, or alcohol-based perfume waters. The spray pump disperses the contents in a fine mist, and the opaque black glass protects the contents from light. This is especially valuable for water-based and alcohol-based formulations with essential oils, plant extracts, or vitamins that lose their scent or efficacy when exposed to light.

The 50 ml volume is convenient for a handbag, travel, and as a sample size. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The food-contact certification applies to the glass bottle alone; the complete set is intended for cosmetic preparations.

What the set is suitable for

The spray pump works reliably only with liquids with a viscosity close to water. The set is therefore suitable for products such as:

• facial mists and tonics based on hydrolat, water and water-soluble active ingredients,
• hydrolats as a standalone product,
• alcohol-based perfume waters and body sprays, where alcohol also protects the preparation from microbial contamination,
• hair sprays for refreshing or detangling, with light ingredients and no oils,
• air fresheners and fabric sprays based on water or alcohol.

Not suitable for thick emulsions, gels, serums with thickeners, or pure oils. The spray pump either fails to draw them in, or produces a stream instead of a mist and the nozzle becomes clogged over time. For oil-based preparations, a bottle with a dropper or pump is more appropriate.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed during standard filling, and this is the figure that belongs on the label. Total volume to the rim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the spray pump dip tube, which pushes the liquid level up when fitted, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. An overfilled bottle will overflow into the thread when the spray pump is attached.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the bottle with warm water and a small amount of detergent, rinsing thoroughly, and sanitising with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Flush the spray pump by spraying clean water or alcohol through it and leave to dry. Do not fill a water-based preparation into a wet container.

Filling temperature. Although glass tolerates higher temperatures than plastic, a sudden temperature change can damage it. Fill the preparation when it has cooled down. Hot liquid could also damage the plastic parts of the spray pump.

Spray pump plastic and formulation composition. The spray pump is made of polypropylene, which is well compatible with water, alcohol, and common cosmetic ingredients. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils or other solvents, we recommend filling one unit as a test and checking after a few weeks whether the pump still seals and dispenses as at the start.

Preservation. The spray pump prevents finger contact with the contents, but with each press air is drawn into the bottle. Water-based preparations without alcohol therefore require a preservative just as they would in any other container.

Labelling. The glossy black surface holds self-adhesive labels well. Apply the label to a dry, degreased bottle before filling.

Reuse. The glass bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. The spray pump is harder to clean: when changing preparations, flush it thoroughly with alcohol and spray it empty. If the mist loses consistency, replace the closure.

Recycling. The bottle goes into glass recycling, the spray pump into plastics. Separate them before disposal.
