Product description
A glossy black glass bottle with a black safety cap and a volume of 10 ml is a ready-made set for liquids that are dispensed by the drop: essential oils, fragrance blends, oil serums and tinctures. Glossy black glass blocks light, so contents prone to oxidation are better protected than in clear packaging. The dropper insert holds the liquid in the neck and releases it one drop at a time, and the safety cap makes accidental opening more difficult.
The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle has a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper insert and the cap do not, so the set is intended for cosmetic use.
What the set consists of
- Glass medicine bottle 10 ml – a bottle made of glossy black glass with an 18/410 neck finish. The term “medicine bottle” refers to the shape with a narrow neck; it says nothing about the contents.
- Short dropper insert 18 mm – a clear PP insert that is pressed into the neck and dispenses the contents by the drop. The short version matches the low bottle and does not reach deep into the contents.
- Safety cap 18/410 – a black smooth cap made of PP and PE. It closes the neck with the dropper insert fitted and matches the glass in colour.
What the set is suitable for
A volume of 10 ml corresponds to an amount that is used up quickly. It is suitable for essential oils and their blends, custom-made fragrance compositions, concentrated oil serums for the face, eye area or cuticles, and samples that you send to customers before they buy a larger size. Herbal tinctures and small batches of macerated oils are also an option.
The dropper insert dispenses thin liquids. Thick oils, balms and gels flow slowly or not at all through the narrow opening; jars or bottles with a pump are more suitable for them. Aqueous solutions and alcoholic tinctures pass through the dropper insert without problems. For pure essential oils and alcoholic contents, we recommend checking how the plastic insert behaves with the specific filling.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume of the glass up to the top of the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the space in the neck once it is pressed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.
Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill the neck to the top, the dropper insert pushes the excess out when it is fitted and the contents leak under the cap.
Filling and handling the set
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the dropper insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck shows up as cloudiness with oil contents. Fill through a small funnel, fit the dropper insert only after filling and press it in evenly until it seats on the rim of the neck.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Let hot oil or freshly filtered macerated oil cool before filling, and do not rinse the bottle alternately with boiling and cold water.
Try out how the safety cap opens before the first use, so that you can explain to customers how the packaging is opened. Leave the filled and closed set lying on its side on a paper towel for several hours. Any leakage will show before the bottle ends up in a bag or a parcel.
The safety feature on the cap makes opening more difficult, but it does not replace safe storage. Keep essential oils and concentrates out of the reach of children regardless of the type of closure.
The glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing. The dropper insert retains the scent of the previous contents and is difficult to clean on the inside, so when you change the contents, it is better to replace it with a new one. When sorting waste, glass goes into glass waste; the dropper insert and the cap are separated before disposal and sorted as plastic.
If this cap does not suit you, you will find other closures for the 18/410 neck finish and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
