This glass medicine bottle set with dropper insert and safety cap is designed for small volumes of liquids that are dispensed drop by drop and need to be protected from light. Black glossy glass does not let light through, so it suits essential oils, diffuser blends or massage blends, oil serums, oil-based perfumes or concentrates of active ingredients that are added to formulations in just a few drops. The 15 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size of an essential oil or facial serum intended for several weeks of use.

The bottle, dropper insert and cap are supplied as one set with an 18/410 neck finish, so there is nothing to buy or match before filling. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How to use the set

The dropper insert is a short polypropylene insert that is pressed into the neck of the bottle after filling. When the bottle is tilted, it releases the contents one drop at a time, without pouring and without a measuring cup. The dripping speed depends on the thickness of the contents. Thin essential oils and alcohol solutions flow quickly, thicker oil serums more slowly.

The safety cap has the same 18/410 thread as the neck of the bottle and is screwed on over the dropper insert in the usual way.

What it is suitable for

• Essential oils and their blends – glass does not react with the contents and the dropper insert allows precise addition to formulations, diffusers or the bath.
• Oil serums for face and hair – the small volume and drop-by-drop dispensing limit contact of the contents with air at each use.
• Oil-based perfumes and fragrance concentrates – black glass protects the fragrance from light and the opaque packaging looks uniform even in a gift pack.
• Concentrates and tinctures for dilution – alcohol or oil extracts that are added to the finished product in a small amount.

The set is not suitable for thick creams or for water-based solutions without preservation. A thick texture will not pass through the dropper insert, and a water phase in opaque packaging makes it harder to check for cloudiness or other changes in the contents.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the top of the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the neck once pressed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it were filled up to the neck, the dropper insert would push part of the contents out and the liquid would get into the thread.

Good to know

A polypropylene dropper insert withstands common cosmetic oils. With prolonged contact with undiluted essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking from time to time that it still seals as well as at the start. Glass itself is resistant to such substances.

The bottle can be reused once it is empty. The dropper insert can be prised out of the neck, but after removal it may no longer seal as well, so we recommend replacing it with a new one when you change the contents. Glass withstands washing in warm water and disinfection with alcohol, but sudden changes in temperature are not good for it.

For recycling, the bottle belongs with glass, while the dropper insert and cap are removed and sorted as plastic.
