Product description
Amber glass bottle, square, aluminium cap, 10 ml
This set, an amber square bottle with an aluminium cap, is intended for small volumes of serums, facial oils, tinctures and essential oil blends, or for samples of your own products. Amber glass reduces light, so contents sensitive to oxidation keep their original properties longer than in a clear bottle. The square body stands steadily on a shelf and packs well into multipacks.
The bottle and cap are supplied together as a set, so you do not need to buy the closure separately or check that it fits the thread. The silver aluminium cap has an inner sealing liner made of EPE foam, which sits on the neck once tightened and seals the contents. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the set is suited for
- Facial and hair serums – the small volume matches a dose that your customer will use up before the active ingredients in the formulation start to change.
- Essential oil blends and oil-based perfumes – glass does not react with essential oils, and the amber colour protects the fragrance from light.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts – amber glass is commonly used for alcohol-based preparations, and alcohol does not damage it.
- Samples and test batches – a volume of 10 ml is enough for trying out a formulation or for a gift or promotional pack.
Nominal and brimful capacity
The bottle is intended to be filled with 10 ml of contents, which is its nominal volume. The brimful capacity, that is the physical volume up to the neck, is larger. The difference between the two values leaves room for the cap and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed up to the thread when you tighten the cap, and the seal then does not hold cleanly.
When filling thick oils or serums, use a small funnel or a syringe without a needle. If you pour straight from a larger container, part of the contents stays on the thread, where it later dries and makes the bottle harder to open.
How to work with the set
Before filling for the first time, wash the bottle and cap, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely with the neck facing down. Residual water would introduce moisture into an anhydrous oil or serum, and with it the risk of microbial contamination.
Tighten the cap by hand, without force. Aluminium is a soft metal, and if the cap is tightened too much, its thread deforms and the seal becomes worse. The seal is provided by the EPE liner, which sits on the rim of the neck even when only lightly tightened.
Glass withstands heat, but not sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle or the other way round. Fill oil blends and serums once they have cooled to room temperature.
The set is declared suitable only for cosmetic products. It is not approved for food, syrups or homemade oils intended for consumption.
Good to know
The square bottle with an 18 mm neck can also be fitted with other closures that have the same neck type. You will find ready-made combinations of bottle plus dropper or sprayer in the Handymade range as separate products. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation, as the behaviour differs depending on the viscosity of the contents.
The bottle can be reused. Once it is empty, wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it with alcohol and leave it to dry. Check the cap before the next use. If the EPE liner has softened, swollen or come off, replace the cap, because it no longer seals reliably.
Amber glass reduces light, but it does not protect the contents from heat. Store filled bottles away from direct sunlight and heat sources, otherwise the contents warm up just as in a clear bottle.
After use, the glass belongs in glass recycling and the aluminium cap in metal recycling. Separate and rinse both parts before recycling.
