Product description
A glass bottle with an aluminium cap, with a capacity of 10 ml, is suitable for small quantities of cosmetics: serum samples, facial and nail oils, essential oil blends, tinctures or travel concentrates. White glass conceals the contents and transmits less light than clear glass, which is beneficial for oils and active ingredients that degrade faster when exposed to light. The aluminium cap with a sealing insert closes the bottle without a dispensing element; the contents are poured or dispensed directly. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
- Samples and testers – a small volume is enough to try out a serum, cream oil or fragrance oil before buying a larger size.
- Essential oil blends – glass does not react with essential oils or alcohol-based solutions, and the cap with insert limits fragrance leakage.
- Oil serums and facial oils – with a small volume, the contents are used up before they start to oxidise.
- Tinctures and concentrates – alcohol-based and water-based extracts that are diluted before use.
- Travel packaging – takes up little space and glass does not retain the odour of the previous contents.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is designed for standard filling. The total brim-full capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a margin for the cap with insert and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle seals less effectively when closed and the contents can reach the thread.
Fill oils and alcohol-based blends at room temperature. Warm contents contract as they cool and the cap then becomes harder to open.
The aluminium cap is tightened by hand, without tools. The seal is provided by the insert in the cap, not the metal, so overtightening will not improve the seal and may deform the insert. Closures with the same thread type as stated in the specifications, as well as ready-made bottle and closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal with the specific formulation.
Good to know
Before the first fill, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. Residual water shortens the shelf life of an oil-based or anhydrous product and dilutes the preservation system in water-based products. The cap is disinfected in the same way, but allow the insert to air-dry rather than using heat.
Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection; the bottle can be reused. Inspect the cap after each use. If the insert is deformed or has absorbed the scent of the previous contents, replace the cap. With strongly acidic or alkaline products, check the cap's behaviour in advance.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not heat it directly on a hob or in a microwave oven.
For small bottles, narrow wrap-around labels or a label on the cap have proved effective. Once the contents are used up, the glass goes in the glass recycling and the aluminium cap in metals.
