Product description

The 10 ml plastic medicine bottle with an aluminium cap is a ready-made set for samples and travel packs of serums, facial and body oils, toners, make-up removers or liquid soaps. The clear PET bottle has an 18 mm neck and a screw-on aluminium cap. Clear plastic shows the colour and clarity of the contents, so it is also suitable for presenting samples to customers or for testing new formulations. The bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, which you will appreciate when sending samples by post or packing them in a cosmetic bag.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle itself also has a certificate for direct food contact, but the aluminium cap does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How the set works

  • Bottle – medicine bottle shape with a wide neck, which makes filling without a funnel easier and allows dispensing by pouring or tipping the contents onto your palm.
  • Aluminium cap – a screw-on closure with a foamed polyethylene (EPE) liner that sits on the neck and seals the contents. You can tighten it comfortably by hand.
  • No dropper – the set includes neither a dropper nor a pump. For serums and oils where you need precise dispensing by the drop, expect to pour, or choose a different closure.

You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you build your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The bottle is physically slightly larger and can be filled right up to the neck, but this space serves as a reserve for the closure and for slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed onto the thread when closing, and the cap then does not seal as it should.

What it is suitable for

It works best where small quantities and simple dispensing are needed: samples of serums and oils for customers, travel packs of facial care, trial batches when developing a formulation, and small amounts of toner or micellar water for a handbag. The wide neck also copes with thicker liquids, such as body oils with added butters or light fluid creams that could not be dispensed through a dropper.

Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. Store oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, formulations with vitamin C, or those with essential oils in the dark, or choose dark glass for long-term packaging. For samples and short-term use, the clear bottle is fine.

Good to know

Before first filling, wash the bottle and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging could undermine the preservation of the water phase.

Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals. For concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents, check compatibility in advance on a single piece, or use glass. Protect the bottle from heat and do not fill it with hot contents: let emulsions and oils cool to room temperature first.

The set with the aluminium cap is not approved for food contact as a whole. The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, and the set in this form is intended for cosmetics.

The bottle can be reused if, after emptying, you wash and disinfect it in the same way as before first filling. Check the liner in the cap for any soaking from the previous contents. For recycling, the bottle belongs with plastic (PET) and the cap with metals, so separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10 ml plastic medicine bottle suitable for an oil-based serum?
Yes, the set is declared suitable for cosmetic products, including vegetable oils and oil-based serums. However, it has no dropper, and the contents are dispensed by pouring through the neck, which is less precise with oils. If the serum contains a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking compatibility with the plastic on a single piece and protecting the contents from light.
Does the clear plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. For samples and short-term use this does not matter. For light-sensitive formulations, such as oils with unsaturated fatty acids or with vitamin C, store the bottle in the dark or choose dark glass for long-term packaging.
How much fits in the 10 ml plastic medicine bottle?
The nominal volume is 10 ml, and that is how much it should normally be filled with. Physically, slightly more fits up to the neck, but this space serves as a reserve for the closure and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If you fill to the brim, the contents are pushed onto the thread and the cap then does not seal.
Can I use the 10 ml plastic medicine bottle for food?
Not the set with the aluminium cap, because the cap has no food-contact certificate. The PET bottle on its own does have a certificate for direct food contact, but the closure does not, which is why the set in this form is intended for cosmetics. If you are looking for packaging for food, choose a combination in which both components are certified.
Can the 10 ml plastic medicine bottle be reused?
Yes, after emptying, wash it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry. When reusing it, check the foam liner in the cap for soaking from the previous contents or for damage. Do not reuse plastic that has become cloudy or soft after contact with an aggressive formulation.
Is the 10 ml plastic medicine bottle suitable for alcohol-based toners and tinctures?
For common cosmetic products, such as toners or facial waters containing alcohol, the bottle is declared suitable. Caution is advised with concentrated fragrance compositions and pure solvents, to which you should not expose the packaging. For such contents, we recommend a test on a single piece or a glass bottle.
