Product description

This white plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a 50 ml capacity and an aluminium screw cap is intended for smaller packs of liquid cosmetics, namely serums, face and body oils, toners, cleansing waters, samples and travel packs. It is made of PET, so it is light and does not break when dropped, unlike glass. This is useful when sending samples and for products that customers carry in a bag. The white colour reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and helps protect ingredients that spoil faster in light. The cap has no dispensing element, so the contents are poured or scooped out through the neck.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle itself also has a certificate for direct contact with food, while the aluminium cap does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Serums and face oils – the 50 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size, and the white wall protects the contents from light during use and storage.
  • Toners and cleansing waters – water-based products that are poured onto a cotton pad or into the palm do not need a pump or a dropper.
  • Trial samples – a small amount of product that can be sent by post without worrying about breakage.
  • Travel packs – a light container for decanting everyday cosmetics for a holiday or a gym bag.
  • Raw materials and intermediates in the workshop – storing the rest of an oil, hydrolate or a work-in-progress phase for the next batch.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for in normal filling. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is always somewhat larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, for example when you move a product from a cool shelf to a warm bathroom. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents are pushed out when the cap is tightened, and the cap liner does not sit on a dry neck.

Cap and seal

The aluminium cap with an 18/410 neck finish has an inner liner made of EPE, that is foamed polyethylene, which sits on the neck once tightened and seals the packaging. Aluminium feels colder and harder than plastic caps and creates a silver contrast on the white bottle. For every new formulation, we recommend checking the seal: lay the filled and tightened bottle on its side on a paper towel and check after a few hours whether the contents leak. You can find closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, as well as ready-made packaging + closure combinations, in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Moisture inside is a risk, especially for water-based products.

  • Heat – PET is a plastic packaging material, so pour in the contents only once they have cooled. Let emulsions and liquid soaps cool to room temperature after production and then fill.
  • Aggressive contents – the packaging is not intended for aggressive chemicals. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the material on one piece.
  • Checking the level – the level of the contents cannot be seen through the white wall, so the remainder is estimated by weight or by looking through the neck.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the set can be used again. Before the next filling, check that the cap liner is not deformed or soaked with the previous contents.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and, once rinsed, is recycled as plastic; unscrew the aluminium cap and dispose of it separately as metal.

A bottle without a sprayer or a dropper dispenses the contents in a stream. With thin serums and oils, expect more to flow out when tilting than with a closure that has a dispensing element.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the white colour of the wall reduces the amount of light reaching the contents. For oils, serums with vitamins or products with essential oils, this is an advantage over clear packaging, where light speeds up yellowing and changes in fragrance. The packaging does not guarantee complete darkness, so store filled bottles out of direct sunlight.
To what level should the 50 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle be filled?
Up to the nominal volume, that is 50 ml, not to the brim of the neck. The space above the level provides a reserve for the cap liner and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you overfill the bottle, the contents are pushed out when the cap is tightened, and the cap then does not sit on a clean neck.
Can the white PET pharmaceutical bottle be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Rinse the bottle with warm water and detergent, let it dry upside down, and check that the cap liner is not soaked with the old contents. For products that have left a fragrance or colour behind, it is safer to use a new piece.
Is the plastic bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for oil-based, water-based and alcohol-based contents?
Yes, for common cosmetic products with a water or oil base; the set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The packaging is not intended for aggressive chemicals, so for contents with a high proportion of alcohol, essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing one piece beforehand and watching whether the material changes shape or appearance.
Is the plastic bottle and aluminium cap set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The white plastic bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, while the aluminium cap does not have such a certificate. If you need packaging for homemade oils or syrups, choose a closure for the bottle whose suitability for food contact is stated in the parameters.
Can a dropper or a pump be used on the 50 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle?
Yes, closures with the same thread type as stated in the parameters can be screwed onto the bottle. You can find ready-made combinations of the packaging with a dropper, sprayer or pump in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking that the closure tightens and seals with your formulation.
