Product description

Glass bottle, clear, with a black aluminium cap, 5 ml is a complete set for small quantities – samples of serums and facial oils, essential oil blends, perfume oils, cuticle oils or test batches of a new formula. Clear glass shows the colour and clarity of the contents, the aluminium cap with a sealing insert closes the vial reliably. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

The 5 ml format is practical wherever you need a small, precisely measured quantity:

  • Samples and trial packs – serum, facial oil or oil blend in a quantity for a few days' use, without waste.
  • Essential oil blends and perfume oils – the screw cap keeps concentrated scents sealed and the vial is easy to carry.
  • Nail and lip oils – liquid oils and balms applied drop by drop or with a finger.
  • Test batches – when refining a formula, it is worth pouring a small amount into a separate vial and observing changes in colour, scent or stability.

Transparency is an advantage for presentation – the customer sees what they are buying, and the producer can easily check clarity and any sediment.

How the set works

The aluminium cap has an inner foam sealing insert (EPE) that seats on the bottle neck and seals the contents against leakage and evaporation. Hand-tightening is sufficient – the thin aluminium does not need to be forced. Over-tightening can deform it and result in a worse seal, not a better one.

The set is supplied as bottle and cap together, so there is no need to check whether the closure fits the thread. If you would like a different closure for this vial, such as a dropper or a spray, closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend verifying the seal with your specific formulation.

Filling: nominal and total volume

With a vial you will encounter two volume figures. Nominal volume is the quantity the container is intended for under normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the cap's sealing insert and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled vial may be forced through the seal when the cap is tightened.

Fill oils and thicker serums using a dropper, syringe or small funnel. The narrow neck and 5 ml volume are unforgiving of fast pouring from a larger container – bubbles form and the thread where the cap seats gets contaminated.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing new vials and caps, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing to dry completely. Moisture trapped in the thread or under the sealing insert is undesirable for anhydrous oils and perfume blends.

Reuse. Glass can be washed and used again as long as the neck rim is not damaged. The aluminium cap withstands repeated use, but the sealing insert should be checked with each new filling. If it is deformed or saturated with the previous contents, replace the closure.

Labelling. A narrow wraparound label or a neck hang tag suits the small vial.

Material sensitivity. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes – allow a hot mixture to cool before filling. The sealing insert is made from polyethylene foam; with pure essential oils, concentrated perfume compositions and solvents, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the insert with your specific contents.

Food contact. The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the vial nor the cap holds a certificate for direct food contact, so do not use it for food purposes.

Recycling. After use, the glass vial belongs in glass recycling and the aluminium cap separately in metals.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store essential oils, oils susceptible to oxidation and active ingredients sensitive to UV radiation in the dark or in a box, or choose a vial in amber or blue glass.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear 5 ml glass vial protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not block light. The vial is suitable for contents that are not light-sensitive, or that are stored in a box or in the dark. For essential oils, vegetable oils susceptible to oxidation and light-sensitive active ingredients, amber or blue glass is more appropriate. The advantage of clear glass is that you can see the colour and clarity of the contents.
How much does the 5 ml glass vial actually hold?
The vial is intended for 5 ml, which is its nominal volume. The physical volume to the brim is slightly larger, but this space serves as allowance for the cap's sealing insert and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume – an overfilled vial may be forced through the seal when tightened.
Is the aluminium cap on the 5 ml vial airtight for oils and perfume blends?
Yes, the cap has a foam sealing insert that seats on the neck and holds the contents against leakage and evaporation. Hand-tightening is sufficient, no force needed. With pure essential oils and concentrated perfume compositions, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the insert with your specific contents, especially if the vial is stored for a longer period or on its side.
Can the 5 ml glass vial with aluminium cap be reused?
Yes, glass can be washed, disinfected and used again as long as the neck is not damaged. The cap as well, but the sealing insert must be checked. If it is saturated with the previous contents or deformed, replace the closure – otherwise scents may mix and the seal will deteriorate.
Is the 5 ml glass vial with aluminium cap set suitable for food?
No, the set is intended for cosmetic products. Neither the vial nor the cap holds a certificate for direct food contact, so do not use it for kitchen oils, syrups or herbal extracts. For cosmetics – serums, facial and nail oils, perfume oils and essential oil blends – both the bottle and the closure are declared suitable.
What is the best way to fill the 5 ml glass vial without contaminating the thread?
Best with a dropper, syringe or small funnel, not directly from a larger container. The narrow neck creates bubbles during fast pouring and the contents catch on the thread where the cap's sealing insert then seats. A contaminated thread reduces the seal and leaves a greasy rim under the cap with oils.
