Product description
A glass bottle with a volume of 30 ml, complemented by a plastic dropper insert and a white screw cap, is used for filling oil serums, facial oils, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil and alcohol-based preparations that are dispensed by the drop. The dropper insert fitted in the neck acts as an anti-spill safeguard: the contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle, and nothing spills when the cap is unscrewed. Clear glass shows the colour and clarity of the contents, so with oil blends you can see straight away whether anything has settled or turned cloudy.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity is available with the product. It is not intended for contact with food.
What the set consists of
- Glass medicine bottle – clear, with a nominal volume of 30 ml.
- Plastic dropper insert – a short PP insert that is pressed into the neck after filling and releases the contents drop by drop.
- White cap – a smooth plastic screw closure that seals the bottle and covers the dropper insert.
What it is suitable for
A volume of 30 ml corresponds to a common pack size of facial oil or serum that lasts several weeks, so the set is chosen both for finished products intended for sale and for your own cosmetics. Drop-by-drop dispensing is useful wherever a small amount is applied: facial oil, beard oil, cuticle oil, diluted aromatherapy blends, alcohol-based toners for spot application or tinctures. It is also suitable for samples and test batches where you want to see the contents through the glass.
For water-based toners and hydrosols, a fine mist sprayer is more suitable. With thin aqueous solutions, a dropper insert releases more liquid at once than is usually needed for application.
Filling and dispensing
The bottle is filled before the dropper insert is fitted, as the contents cannot be poured in once the insert is in place. For thicker oils, a small funnel or a syringe without a needle helps. After filling, the dropper insert is pressed evenly into the neck down to the rim and the cap is tightened by hand.
The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper insert and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the rim, otherwise part of the contents is pushed out when the dropper insert is pressed in.
The dropping speed depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thick oils such as castor oil drip slowly, while light esters and alcohol-based solutions drip quickly. Before filling the whole batch, we recommend testing one bottle with the finished formulation to check that the drop size suits the way you apply it.
What to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the glass and plastic parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil product supports the growth of microorganisms.
- Light – clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store oils prone to oxidation and products with vitamins or essential oils in the dark or in a box, or choose amber glass.
- Essential oils and alcohol – glass is resistant to them, but the plastic dropper insert and cap come into direct contact with the contents. For undiluted essential oils or a higher alcohol content, we recommend checking the seal and the behaviour of the plastic parts in the finished formulation.
- Reuse – the glass bottle can be reused after washing and disinfection. The dropper insert is hard to clean once removed from the neck and oil residues remain in it, so it is better to use a new one when refilling.
- Other closures – closures with the same neck type and ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
- Sorting – glass goes with glass; separate the dropper insert and cap before disposal and place them with plastics.
Do not expose the glass to sudden temperature changes. Let the finished oil phase or blend cool to room temperature after heating and only then fill it into the bottle.
