Product description

The green glass bottle with a 30 ml volume and a white lotion pump is intended for facial serums, fluids, light creams and gels that are applied in small doses. The pump dispenses the same amount every time, the contents do not touch your fingers, and the bottle stays closed during use. The green glass also filters out some of the light, which helps with formulations containing light-sensitive active ingredients.

Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not intended for food.

What the set is suitable for

The 30 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size for facial products that are used up within a few weeks. The lotion pump handles consistencies from a liquid serum to a medium-thick cream.

  • Serums and facial fluids – a small dose per press corresponds to the amount normally applied to the face.
  • Eye creams and contour creams – dispensing in small amounts prevents waste and unnecessary contact with the contents.
  • Light to medium-thick creams and gels – they pass through the dip tube and nozzle without problems.
  • Formulations with sensitive active ingredients – vitamin C, retinol or plant extracts have less contact with light and fingers in tinted glass and a closed system.

Thick body butters, balms or products with a higher proportion of solid ingredients are not suitable for the lotion pump. The dip tube will not draw them up and the pump will jam.

How the pump works

One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. When making your products, you can easily calculate how many doses correspond to the recommended amount for a single application and state this in the instructions for your customer. The first presses after filling serve to draw the contents into the dip tube until the product appears in the nozzle. The dip tube should reach the bottom of the bottle so that the pump also draws up the last remnants.

If the pump’s dip tube is longer than the height of the bottle, trim it with scissors so that it reaches the bottom and does not bend when the pump is screwed on. A bent dip tube does not draw up the product as well.

The pump simply screws onto the 18 mm neck. Before shipping the finished product, we recommend checking that the connection is tight and how your particular formulation behaves in the pump, especially with very liquid serums, which may leak through the nozzle during transport. You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them provides a reserve for the pump’s dip tube and the headspace above the liquid. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill it up to the neck, the contents will overflow when the pump is screwed on.

Fill emulsions cooled to room temperature. A hot product in a cold bottle may crack the glass. A syringe without a needle or a small funnel is suitable for filling the small neck.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the pump and let it dry as well, as moisture in the dip tube would get into the product.
  • Reuse – the glass can be washed and refilled. Before reusing the pump, pump warm water with a small amount of cleaning product through it, then clean water, and leave it to dry.
  • Anhydrous oil-based products – the pump is made of polypropylene. For oils with a high proportion of essential oils or for solvents, we recommend checking whether the plastic changes its properties after longer contact.
  • Green glass and light – it filters out some of the light but does not replace storage in the dark. Keep light-sensitive products away from direct sunlight even in this packaging.
  • Recycling – take the set apart before disposal and sort the glass and the plastic pump separately.

The lotion pump is not an airless system. Air enters the bottle with every press, so products without preservatives or with easily oxidising ingredients require the same protection as in ordinary packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 30 ml glass bottle with a pump suitable for serums?
Yes, the lotion pump handles liquid serums and light fluids. A small dose per press corresponds to the amount for a single application to the face. For very runny serums with a water-like consistency, we recommend checking whether the contents leak through the nozzle during transport and, if necessary, choosing a closure with a dropper.
How much cream does the pump dispense per press?
One full press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. The actual amount depends on the thickness of the product and on whether the dip tube is fully primed. Before providing instructions to your customers, we recommend measuring the dose with your own formulation, as a thick cream behaves differently from a liquid serum.
Does the green glass protect the contents from light?
Partially. The green glass filters out some of the light, but it is not full protection like storage in the dark. For ordinary creams and serums, keeping the bottle indoors away from a window is sufficient. Products that are particularly sensitive to light, for example those with a higher proportion of vitamin C or retinol, should be kept away from direct sunlight even in this packaging.
To what level should the 30 ml bottle be filled?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck serves as a reserve for the pump’s dip tube and for the air the pump needs when working. If it is filled to the brim, the contents overflow when the pump is screwed on and the pump does not draw up the product as well.
Is the lotion pump also suitable for a thick body butter?
No, the dip tube will not draw up thick butters and balms and the pump will jam. The lotion pump is intended for consistencies from a liquid serum to a medium-thick cream that pours freely or flows slowly. A jar or a wide-neck container is more suitable for thick products.
