MICA – pearlescent powder colourants made from mica

337 items – the widest group of powder colourants in the range. Mica pigments create a pearlescent to metallic sheen, do not tint the water phase and work as an optical shimmer inside the mass.

The offer is made up of two lines: AquaPearls (Gold dust, Champagne, Iced Mocha, Ocean Breeze, Snowball, Thunderbolt, Warm spice and Mulberry wine) and the MICA powder colourant with shades such as Arctic White, Antique Gold, Aphrodite, Bejeweled and Blue Moon. Pack sizes run from a 10 g sample to 1 kg.

Mica comes into its own above all in glycerine soaps, balms and colour cosmetics; in cold process soap it is used for pearlescent swirls – choose a conservative dose and judge the final shade only once the soap has set. Shades based on organic colourants may change colour in an alkaline environment – check the CP stability of a shade in the product specification or on a small sample. Before mixing it in, disperse the pigment in a small part of the oil or in glycerine.

Matte, opaque shades are among the oxides and ultramarines, and the whole group is in powder colourants.

Frequently asked questions

Does mica stain the lather or the skin?

No – mica pigments are insoluble and do not tint the water phase, so with correct dosing they typically stain neither the lather nor the skin. At an excessive dose, sediment can occur.

Is mica suitable for cold process soap?

Yes, in CP soap it is used for pearlescent effects and swirls. Shades based on organic colourants may, however, change colour in an alkaline environment – check the CP stability in the product specification or on a small sample. Choose a conservative dose and judge the final colour only once the soap has set.

What is the difference between mica and oxides?

Mica gives a pearlescent to metallic sheen and an optical shimmer, while oxides are matte and highly opaque. So reach for oxides for a full matte colour, and for mica for sheen and swirls.
