Amber glass medicine bottle, lotion pump with black top, 100 ml

A ready-made set for filling creams, face lotions, body emulsions and thicker serums: an amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a black plastic lotion pump. The pump draws the contents up through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle, so the product can be dispensed with one hand and your fingers do not come into contact with the contents. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which benefits formulations with vegetable oils, vitamins and extracts.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

Medium-thickness face and body creams – the pump protects the contents from repeated opening and the introduction of impurities.
Lotions and light emulsions – thinner contents pass smoothly through the dip tube and the dose stays consistent.
Thicker serums and gels – 100 ml corresponds to a common product size for several weeks of use.
Light-sensitive contents – amber glass also makes sense for emulsions with a higher proportion of unstable oils or active ingredients.

The pump does not spray. For toners, hydrosols and facial mists, choose a bottle with a fine mist sprayer.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and you can find it in the parameters. The difference provides room for the pump's dip tube and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the pump will push part of the contents out through the neck when screwed on.

One press of the pump delivers approximately 0.14 ml. When formulating a cream, check how many presses correspond to the recommended amount for one application.

Before first use, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube draws up the contents and the pump starts dispensing evenly. Air in the dip tube after filling is normal and is pushed out after a few presses.

Good to know

Before first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Leave a hot emulsion to cool after emulsification and fill it only when lukewarm, otherwise there is a risk of the bottle cracking. With thick creams, fill one bottle first and check that the consistency passes through the dip tube without catching. A very thick mass may result in a smaller or uneven dose.

Only the glass bottle has a food-contact certificate; the plastic PP pump does not. The set is therefore not intended for edible oils, syrups or other foods.

For formulations with a higher content of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, test a small sample before filling the whole batch. After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The pump is harder to clean, so it is better to replace it when changing the formulation. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. Once empty, the glass belongs in glass waste, and the plastic pump is sorted separately as plastic.

Does an amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?

Yes, amber glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents and slows the changes that light causes in oils, vitamins and plant extracts. It does not guarantee complete protection, so store even an amber bottle out of direct sunlight. For light-sensitive contents, dark glass is a better choice than clear glass or clear plastic.

Can a lotion pump dispense a thick cream?

The pump can handle a thick cream only up to a certain consistency. Yes, the pump dispenses a liquid oil easily, but with a very thin oil it may drip from the pump outlet after pressing. Check how the pump behaves with your specific oil on a single bottle.
