Product description

Amber glass medicine bottle, lotion pump, 10 ml

This small bottle made of amber glass with a lotion pump and a black top is used for packaging serums, eye creams, light emulsions and gels where precise and hygienic dispensing matters. The amber glass dampens light and protects contents with light-sensitive ingredients, such as vitamin C, retinoids or plant extracts. The pump dispenses roughly the same amount each time and the contents do not touch your fingers, which you will appreciate especially with leave-on facial products.

The nominal volume of 10 ml suits concentrated formulations, samples, test batches or travel versions of creams. The set includes both the bottle and the pump; before filling, it only needs to be assembled and prepared.

What it is good for

  • Serums and concentrates – the small volume and dark glass suit formulations with a higher proportion of active ingredients, which are dispensed with a single press.
  • Eye creams and lighter-consistency face creams – one dose is enough for the eye area or for the whole face.
  • Gels and light emulsions – the product passes through the dip tube and the pump head without much resistance.
  • Samples and test batches – when developing a formulation, it pays to fill a small amount and observe how the product behaves in the actual packaging.

With thick ointments, balms or creams with a high proportion of wax, we recommend checking in advance that the pump can draw up and dispense the product. A consistency that holds on a spoon like a paste will generally not pass through this kind of pump.

Filling and dispensing

The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once screwed on.

Before assembling for the first time, shorten the pump dip tube so that it reaches just above the bottom of the bottle. The dip tube is supplied longer than the height of this bottle, and without shortening it the pump will not seat on the neck.

One dose is approximately 0.14 ml, which corresponds to the usual amount of serum or eye cream for a single use. When using it for the first time, press the pump several times until the dip tube fills and the product starts to come out. Thicker emulsions require more presses and the dose may contain less product, so check the dispensing with your specific formulation.

Fill the cream or gel only after it has cooled to room temperature. A small funnel or a syringe without a needle helps during filling, so that the neck and thread stay clean and the pump seats properly.

Good to know

Before filling for the first time, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with alcohol and let it drain, as water hardly gets into its mechanism and residual moisture could spoil the contents.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the lotion pump does not have one, so the assembly should not be used for food purposes.

The bottle can be reused; wash and disinfect it again before each refill. After the first use, the pump is harder to clean thoroughly, so when changing the formulation it is safer to use a new one. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The packaging material is suitable for use with cosmetic products; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. Before recycling, separate the two parts: the glass bottle goes with glass and the pump with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 10 ml amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass significantly limits the amount of light reaching the contents. It is therefore suitable for serums and creams with light-sensitive ingredients, such as vitamin C, retinol, plant oils prone to oxidation or essential oils. Dark glass does not replace an antioxidant or a preservative in the formulation; it only slows down degradation caused by light.
Which creams can be dispensed with an 18 mm lotion pump?
The pump handles light to medium-thick emulsions, serums and gels. The product must be fluid enough for the pump to draw it up through the dip tube and push it out through the head. Thick ointments, balms and creams with a high proportion of wax usually do not pass through the pump or clog the head. For every formulation, we recommend checking the behaviour with a test fill.
Why is the 10 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml because the dip tube and the pump body take up part of the internal space once screwed on. The brimful capacity is larger and is given in the parameters. An overfilled bottle overflows when the pump is screwed on and the product gets into the thread, where it prevents proper seating.
Can the bottle with a lotion pump be reused?
Yes, after washing and disinfecting with alcohol, the glass bottle can be filled again. The pump is harder to clean because cream residues remain in the dip tube and in the mechanism. With the same product, rinsing with alcohol is enough; when changing the formulation or with a product sensitive to contamination, it is safer to use a new pump.
Is the bottle and pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the polypropylene lotion pump does not have one. For food use, therefore, combine the bottle with a closure that has its own food-contact certificate, not with this pump.
