Product description

A clear 100 ml PET bottle with a screw-on black lotion pump is a ready-made packaging solution for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed without opening the bottle and without fingers touching the contents. The clear plastic shows the colour of the product and how much is left, and the lightweight bottle is well suited to the bathroom, travel and sample packs.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The pump delivers a small amount per press, so the bottle is suitable for face lotions, lighter-consistency body emulsions, gel-texture serums, fluids and creamy cleansing products. A pump of this type is not designed for thick creams, balms and butters; such products belong in a jar.

How the set works

The bottle has an 18 mm threaded neck onto which the pump is screwed directly. The dip tube reaches almost to the bottom, so the contents can be used up without tilting the bottle. The black top of the pump contrasts with the clear body of the bottle, and the finished product looks neat.

After filling and screwing on the pump, press it several times until the dip tube and piston fill with the contents. It then delivers one dose per press. The dose volume is approximately 0.14 ml, which corresponds to the amount of serum or fluid for a single application to the face. For body products, press several times.

The consistency of the emulsion determines how well the pump draws. Before a larger production run, fill one bottle as a trial and check that the product is dispensed evenly and does not drip after pressing.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brim-full volume is larger, because it also includes the space up to the neck. This difference provides a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the interior once screwed on. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal 100 ml, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents overflow when the pump is fitted and soil the thread.

Good to know

Light – clear PET does not protect against light. Store products containing oils prone to oxidation, plant extracts or light-sensitive dyes out of direct sunlight, or preferably fill them into dark packaging.
Composition of the contents – for products with a high proportion of alcohol, essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic behaves in the finished formulation, especially the shape of the bottle and the tightness of the pump.
Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow them to dry completely. Rinse the dip tube so that no water is left in it, as it would dilute the first doses.
Reuse – the bottle can be used again after thorough washing. The pump is harder to clean, because residues of the emulsion remain in the piston and dip tube.
Food contact – only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP. Before disposal, unscrew the pump and sort both parts as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 100 ml plastic bottle with a lotion pump suitable for food?

No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the clear PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the lotion pump does not carry such a declaration. If you need a bottle for homemade oil or syrup, combine it with a closure that has a food-contact declaration, not with this pump.

What products can be dispensed with an 18 mm lotion pump?

The 18 mm lotion pump handles liquid and semi-liquid emulsions that flow freely: face and body lotions, light creams, fluids, gel serums and creamy cleansing products. Very thick creams, balms and butters cannot be dispensed with it, as the dip tube will not draw them up. For a borderline consistency, we recommend testing in one bottle before filling the whole batch.

Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?

No, clear PET lets light through. It is suitable for products whose ingredients are not light-sensitive, or for products stored in a cabinet or drawer. Products with vegetable oils prone to oxidation or with natural dyes are more stable in amber or blue packaging.

Can the bottle with a lotion pump be cleaned and reused?

Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be cleaned and refilled once empty. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry. Rinse the pump with warm water and a cleaning product, pump water through it until it runs clean and dry it thoroughly, otherwise residues of the old emulsion will spoil the new filling. Each time you refill, check that the pump is sealing properly.

Does the 18 mm lotion pump also fit another bottle?

Yes, the 18 mm lotion pump can be used on any bottle with an 18 mm neck and a matching thread type. Compare the length of the dip tube with the height of the bottle: on a shorter bottle it can be trimmed, while on a taller bottle it will not reach the bottom. When using the pump on another bottle, we recommend always testing the tightness and dispensing with your specific contents.
