Product description

White plastic pharmaceutical bottle with black lotion pump, 50 ml is a ready-made set for filling with liquid to medium-thick emulsions that are dispensed by pressing the pump. The bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml is made of PET, so it is lightweight and more resistant to drops than glass. It is suitable for travel sizes, samples and smaller batches of homemade or salon products. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How the set works

The lotion pump screws directly onto the neck of the bottle; the threads of both parts match. It draws the contents up through a dip tube from the bottom and pushes them out through the outlet in the pump head. There is no need to open or tilt the bottle, fingers do not come into contact with the remaining contents, and the emulsion is less exposed to air than in a jar. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. This amount suits face creams, eye and serum emulsions or hand fluids, which are applied in small portions.

The black pump with a black top on the white bottle gives the set a contrasting black and white look.

What it is suitable for

  • Face creams and fluids – lighter and medium-thick O/W emulsions that the dip tube draws up without difficulty.
  • Serums and gel emulsions – 50 ml corresponds to the usual volume of a face serum or gel cream.
  • Hand creams and body lotions for travel – a small pack for your handbag or a gift sample.
  • Test batches – while developing a recipe, you can try the finished emulsion straight in the packaging in which it will be sold.

A lotion pump cannot reliably dispense very thick creams, anhydrous balms or butters. A jar or tube is better suited to them.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference provides room for the dip tube and the inner part of the pump, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled only up to the nominal volume. If it is overfilled, part of the contents is pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on, or the pump is flooded as soon as it is fitted.

The dip tube of the pump is longer than the bottle. Before the first filling, trim it so that it ends just above the bottom and does not bend. The first doses after filling are often weaker, so prime the pump with several presses.

Good to know

Before first use, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Rinse the dip tube and the pump outlet with the disinfectant and pump it through several times so that no water remains in them.

Fill the bottle with the emulsion only after it has cooled to room temperature. PET should be protected from heat, both during filling and during storage of the finished products. The bottle should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. For recipes with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, therefore, check the behaviour of the bottle and the pump with your specific formulation.

The bottle can be reused if it is thoroughly washed and disinfected after emptying. Emulsion residues in the dip tube and the pump mechanism are cleaned by pumping through warm water and then disinfectant. If the pump is difficult to clean, it is more reliable to replace it with a new one for the next batch.

You will find closures with the same neck type as the bottle, and other ready-made combinations of packaging and closure, in the Handymade range. If you combine parts yourself, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET, the pump of PP. Separate them for recycling and sort them by material.

The food-contact certificate applies only to the bottle itself. With the lotion pump screwed on, the set is intended exclusively for cosmetic products.

Frequently asked questions

Is the white pharmaceutical bottle with a lotion pump, 50 ml, suitable for contact with food?
The set as a whole is not. The certificate for direct food contact applies only to the white PET bottle; the black lotion pump does not have it. With the lotion pump screwed on, the packaging is therefore intended for cosmetics only. Both parts, the bottle and the pump, are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
How much cream does the lotion pump dispense per press?
Approximately 0.14 ml per full press. The actual amount depends on the thickness of the emulsion and on whether the pump has been primed. With 50 ml of contents, this corresponds to roughly several hundred doses, which suits face creams, serum emulsions and hand creams that are applied in small portions.
Is the lotion pump also suitable for thick creams and balms?
It works reliably with liquid to medium-thick emulsions. The dip tube does not draw up very thick creams, anhydrous balms or butters, and the pump cannot push them out or may become blocked. For a borderline consistency, we recommend filling a trial bottle and checking the dispensing after a few days, once the emulsion has settled.
Can the white PET pharmaceutical bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, the bottle can be filled again. The lotion pump is cleaned by pumping through warm water and then disinfectant. If residues of the old emulsion remain in the dip tube or the mechanism, it is safer to use a new pump for the next batch.
Can I fill the pharmaceutical bottle with the emulsion while it is still warm?
No, fill the bottle only after the emulsion has cooled to room temperature. The PET bottle should be protected from heat, both during filling and during storage of the finished product. Let the finished emulsion cool in its container while stirring continuously, and only then fill it into the bottle.
