Product description

This amber plastic medicine bottle with a capacity of 30 ml and a black lotion pump is a ready-made packaging set for smaller quantities of face creams, serums and lighter emulsions. The dark PET dampens light, so it protects formulations containing vegetable oils and active ingredients that degrade faster in light. The plastic is light and unbreakable, so the bottle can withstand being carried in a bag and being sent to customers.

The pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per press. The cream is taken out in small doses without scooping it with your fingers, and the contents stay protected from air and impurities during use. Both parts have a matching neck finish, so you only need to fill the set and screw it on. As a whole, it is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face creams and fluids – the 30 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size for day or night care, and one dose is enough for a single application.
  • Serums and light emulsions – if they have a creamy consistency, the pump dispenses them evenly. Very thin liquids may drip from the nozzle.
  • Eye creams and travel-size hand creams – a small volume and a small dose are an advantage for products of which only a little is used at a time.
  • Samples and trial batches – a smaller pack for trying out a new formulation, dispensed in the same way as the full size.

Nominal and brimful capacity

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and is always larger. The difference provides room for the dip tube and the pump, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you overfill the bottle, the contents will overflow through the neck when you screw on the pump.

Filling and handling the pump

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Do not forget the dip tube through which the contents pass.

Let the emulsion cool to room temperature before filling. PET should be protected from heat, and a warm cream would also change its volume after cooling. The neck of the bottle is narrow, so a funnel or a dosing syringe with a thick tip helps during filling. After screwing on the pump, press it several times without dispensing until it primes and starts to dispense evenly.

Check the length of the dip tube before screwing on the pump. If it is taller than the bottle, shorten it with a sharp knife so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube that is too long will bend and the pump will then draw in the contents unevenly.

The pump is designed for creams and emulsions. The pump may not be able to push out very thick balms and butters with a high proportion of waxes, and very thin liquids may drip from the nozzle. We recommend testing how a particular formulation behaves in the pump on a trial pack before a larger production run.

Good to know

Only the amber bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the lotion pump does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics, so do not use it for homemade oils, syrups or infusions.

PET withstands common cosmetic emulsions, creams and oils. Do not expose it to aggressive chemicals. For formulations with a significant proportion of alcohol or essential oils, we recommend checking whether the plastic changes appearance or shape after several weeks.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The pump is harder to clean, as residues of the contents remain inside the pump and in the dip tube. Rinse it with warm water and a cleaning product, flush it several times with clean water and let it dry. When changing the formulation or fragrance, it is safer to replace the pump with a new one.

You can find closures with the same neck finish as the bottle, and other ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP; separate them before recycling and place them in the plastics bin.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 30 ml amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber PET dampens the passage of light and reduces its effect on the contents. It is therefore suitable for creams and serums with vegetable oils, vitamins and other light-sensitive ingredients. However, it does not replace an antioxidant in the formulation or storage out of direct sunlight; it only complements these measures.
How much cream does the pump dispense per press?
The pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per full press. The actual amount depends on the thickness of the contents and on whether the pump is fully primed. With thick creams the dose tends to be slightly smaller, and with thin emulsions it is more precise. A 30 ml pack therefore gives you over two hundred doses as a rough guide.
Can the bottle with the lotion pump be used for edible oil or syrup?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the amber bottle itself has a certificate for direct food contact; the lotion pump does not. In this combination, the packaging is intended for cosmetic products, for example creams, serums and emulsions.
How do I fill the 30 ml plastic bottle with a pump?
Fill the bottle with cooled contents up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. Space must remain above the surface for the dip tube and the pump, otherwise the contents will overflow after you screw on the pump. Before the first filling, wash the packaging and disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. After screwing on the pump, press it several times without dispensing until it primes.
Is the lotion pump also suitable for thin serums and oils?
The pump works best with creams and emulsions of medium thickness. Very thin serums or pure oils may drip from the nozzle, and the dose tends to be less predictable. The pump may not be able to push out thick balms. We recommend trying a specific formulation on a single pack before you fill the whole batch.
