FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Is this glass vial also suitable for preparations containing alcohol?

Glass packaging is generally very well tolerated by hydroalcoholic solutions, perfumed sprays and disinfectant preparations. When producing your own formulations, however, we recommend making a test sample – to verify the functionality of the spray pump, the consistency of the mist and the long-term stability of the preparation in contact with the packaging, so that you can be sure of optimal use.

How should the vial be properly cleaned and disinfected before repeated use?

The packaging can be reused provided that basic hygiene principles are followed. Before each new filling, the vial must be thoroughly washed, rinsed with clean water and then disinfected with a suitable alcohol, for example using the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. After disinfection, allow the inside of the bottle and the spray pump to dry completely, in order to minimize the risk of microbial contamination of the new product.

How can I safely dispose of and recycle this glass vial if I no longer want to use it?

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend emptying it and removing any product residues according to the nature of the original preparation. The glass part of the vial can be placed, after cleaning, into sorted glass collection in accordance with local recycling rules. The spray pump with plastic and metal components should be disposed of in mixed waste or the appropriate sorted waste stream according to your municipality’s recommendations. When sorting, also follow the information given in the product parameters on the Handymade website, where you will find the material composition required for correct assignment into the recycling stream.

What should I watch out for when filling thicker or oil-based preparations into a bottle with a spray pump?

Spray pumps are designed primarily for low-viscosity aqueous or hydroalcoholic solutions. With thicker or strongly oil-based formulations, the quality of atomization may decrease or the nozzle may clog. Before final filling, we recommend producing a smaller test batch, checking the behaviour of the product during dosing and, if necessary, adjusting the composition (for example dilution or changing the type of packaging) in order to achieve the desired mist quality.
