Product description
The glass bottle with an oral sprayer, 100 ml, is a set for liquid preparations that are dispensed in small doses to a precisely targeted spot. The long nozzle of the pump reaches where an ordinary sprayer does not, so the set is suited above all to mouth sprays and breath fresheners, herbal oral sprays, and also to water-based or alcohol-based tonics and hair tonic, where you want to apply a small amount in a targeted way without overspray. Clear glass shows the contents and their clarity, which you will appreciate with clear and coloured infusions. However, it does not protect the contents from light, so it is recommended for preparations that are not light-sensitive, or for short-term use.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle on its own also has a certificate for direct food contact, whereas the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.
What the set is suited to
- Mouth sprays and breath fresheners – the nozzle directs the dose straight into the mouth. Mint, sage or citrus water-based formulations with alcohol are dispensed cleanly and without dripping.
- Herbal oral sprays – infusions and hydrolates in a cosmetic formulation, where you want to see that the contents remain clear.
- Facial and hair tonics for spot application – a small dose on a specific area, for example on the scalp along a parting or on a small area of the face.
- Alcohol-based and water-based sprays for hands or textiles in a small pack – 100 ml fits in a handbag, and the glass withstands alcohol and stronger fragrance components.
How the pump works
This is a mechanical pump with a long nozzle instead of a spray head. One press releases approximately 0.1 ml of the preparation, so the contents are used up slowly and the dose is roughly the same every time. The tube reaches deep into the bottle, so the contents can be sprayed almost to the bottom without tilting.
Only thin, watery liquids can be dispensed: aqueous solutions, hydrolates, tonics, infusions and preparations with alcohol. The pump will not draw up or spray thick gels, oils and emulsions, and with oils there is a risk of the mechanism sticking. Filter preparations containing insoluble particles or sediment before filling, as small particles get caught in the nozzle.
Before filling a whole batch, run a test with one bottle. Check that the pump draws up the preparation easily, that the jet goes where it should, and that the seal and the action of the pump do not change after several days. With a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, always check how the plastic pump behaves with your formulation.
Nominal volume and brimful capacity
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them forms a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which push part of the contents upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. Therefore, fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the preparation will be pushed out when the pump is fitted.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water and let the nozzle and the tube dry, as leftover water would dilute the first doses. The same procedure applies to repeated use. When changing the formulation, it is safer to replace the pump, as residues of the previous contents are hard to wash out of the tube.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Pour in a hot solution only after it has cooled to room temperature, and do not put the bottle in the freezer or on direct heat. Glass does not let odours through and does not react with the contents, so it is also suitable for fragrance components that would over time discolour or weaken a plastic bottle.
Clear glass lets light through. Preparations with essential oils, plant infusions or colorants that fade or oxidise in light should be stored in the dark or filled into dark glass. Water-based preparations in this bottle need a preservative just as in any other packaging, as the long tube and the nozzle are in contact with both the contents and the air.
The pump is not intended for thick or oily preparations. If the formulation contains an oil phase, check that it is a clear, thin solution that the pump can draw up. This type of pump cannot handle emulsions and gels.
Closures with the same 18/410 neck finish and ready-made combinations of the bottle with another closure can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation. The glass bottle belongs in glass recycling, and the polypropylene pump in plastics.
