Product description
This small square amber glass medicine bottle with a black aluminium cap is designed for filling and storing smaller volumes of cosmetics that need protection from light. Amber glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so the set is particularly suitable for face and body oils, blends with essential oils, oil serums, tinctures and perfume oils. The nominal volume of 45 ml matches the size in which a face oil or a trial batch of a new product is commonly sold. The square shape stands firmly on a shelf, the bottles can be stored close together, and they shift less in a box during transport.
Both the bottle and the cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products; you can find the declaration of conformity with each of the individual components. The set is intended for cosmetics and is not declared for contact with food.
What the set consists of
- Amber glass – chemically stable with common cosmetic contents, it reduces the amount of light reaching oils and essential oils.
- Aluminium cap, 18 mm – screw-on, with a liner made of polyethylene foam (EPE). The liner sits on the neck and seals the bottle; when the bottle is closed, it is the liner that comes into contact with the contents.
- Square shape – straight sides and a wide base, so the bottle does not tip over and is easy to hold when pouring.
- Black cap – dark glass with a black closure looks uniform, which you will appreciate for samples and small batches.
What it is suitable for
This set is most often filled with oil-based products: face oil, beard oil, massage oil in a travel size, a blend of carrier and essential oil, or an oil serum with light-sensitive vitamins. It also works for tinctures, extracts and perfume oils, which are dispensed by pouring or dripping from the neck. The cap seals the bottle; it does not dispense the contents. If you need drops or spraying, you can find closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling, which is 45 ml for this set. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the top of the neck and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the cap liner, for a possible dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume. An overfilled bottle pushes the contents onto the thread when closing, and the cap then seals less well.
Filling and handling the bottle
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let it dry completely with the neck facing down. It is enough to wipe the cap with a disinfectant; do not soak the liner for a long time.
When filling oils, it is worth using a narrow funnel or a dispensing bottle with a spout. The neck stays clean, the thread will not be greasy and the cap sits evenly around the whole circumference.
Do not pour warm contents, for example oil blends with melted butter or wax, into a cold bottle. A sudden temperature difference between the contents and the wall can crack the glass.
Before filling with warm contents, bring the bottle to a similar temperature, for example with warm water, and let it dry. Do not place a hot filled bottle on a cold metal or stone surface.
Tighten the cap by hand, without force. If it is tightened too hard, the thin aluminium deforms and the seal gets worse. After filling the first bottle from a batch, we recommend a leak test: turn it neck down onto a paper towel and leave it for several hours. With alcohol-based contents and blends with a high proportion of essential oils, also check the liner to see whether it swells or softens over time.
Reuse and recycling
The glass bottle can be used repeatedly. Remove oil residues with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse the bottle, disinfect it and let it dry. Check the cap after washing. If the liner is deformed, discoloured or has absorbed the scent of the previous contents, replace the cap with a new one. At the end of its life, the glass belongs in glass recycling and the aluminium cap in metal recycling; the liner is made of polyethylene.
