Product description

An amber plastic bottle with a black fine mist sprayer and a smoky overcap is a travel and everyday packaging for liquid products that are applied to the skin or hair by spraying. The 50 ml set is put together so that the bottle and closure fit each other by thread, seal properly and can be used straight away without searching for a suitable sprayer.

The bottle has a medicine bottle shape and is made of amber PET. The dark plastic reduces light exposure, which you will appreciate with hydrosols, plant extracts and essential oil sprays, whose fragrance fades faster in light. Compared with glass, PET is light and does not break when dropped, so the set is suitable for a handbag, travelling, the gym or a work desk. The sprayer is made of polypropylene. The black head with a smoky clear overcap completes the dark look of the packaging, and the overcap protects the nozzle from dust and accidental pressing.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial tonics and hydrosols – spraying replaces a cotton pad and moisturises the skin evenly without your hands touching the contents.
  • Refreshing face and body sprays – water-based solutions with glycerine, aloe or other moisturising agents that are applied several times a day.
  • Sprays for hair – leave-in conditioner sprays, hair waters with extracts or light sprays that make detangling easier.
  • Sprays for hands and tools – water-alcohol solutions for refreshing hands or cleaning brushes and cosmetic tools.
  • Samples and travel packs – 50 ml is enough for trying out a recipe or for a shorter holiday without a large bottle.

The sprayer is designed for contents with a low viscosity, that is, water-based, water-glycerine and thin alcohol solutions. Thick emulsions, gels and pure oils will not pass through the nozzle or will clog it. With your own recipes, especially those with solubilised essential oils or a higher proportion of alcohol, we recommend testing how the bottle and the sprayer behave on a small quantity.

Dispensing and filling

One press releases approximately 0.12 ml of the contents, so a single fill gives you hundreds of applications. The dose lightly moistens the skin or hair without running. On first use, the sprayer needs to be pressed several times until the dip tube and the mechanism fill with liquid.

The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, not to the rim of the neck. The nominal volume is the quantity the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The actual volume of the bottle up to the neck is larger. This difference provides a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer, which push the liquid level upwards once fitted, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes.

Fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume and fit the sprayer over a sink or a mat. If the bottle is overfilled, part of the contents will leak out through the thread when the sprayer is tightened.

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube would dilute the first doses and put unnecessary strain on the preservative system of your recipe.

Good to know

The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the amber PET bottle has a separate certificate for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not have one, so the whole pack is assessed as packaging for cosmetics and should not be used for food purposes.

PET withstands water-based and glycerine solutions as well as common cosmetic preservatives. It is sensitive to heat and aggressive chemicals. Do not fill it with hot solutions; let the contents cool to room temperature first. Recipes with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils or strong solvents may damage the plastic over time.

Undiluted essential oils and strong solvents do not belong in a PET bottle. For sprays with essential oils, solubilise or dilute them first and check how the packaging behaves with the finished formulation.

The set can be used repeatedly. After the contents are used up, rinse the bottle, spray clean water through the sprayer to remove residues from the dip tube and the nozzle, and leave everything to dry. Repeat the disinfection before filling again. If you later want to use a different closure, any closure with the same neck type will fit. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing; ready-made packaging and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range.

When recycling, separate the two parts. The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of polypropylene, that is, two different plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber PET bottle with a sprayer protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber PET reduces visible light and limits its effect on the contents. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols, tonics with extracts and sprays with essential oils, whose fragrance or effect fades faster in light. The plastic does not provide complete protection, so do not leave the bottle in direct sunlight for long periods.
Is the 50 ml plastic bottle with a sprayer suitable for alcohol-based tonics?
The set can be used for water-alcohol solutions with a normal alcohol content, but test it beforehand if the alcohol content is high. PET is sensitive to aggressive chemicals, so with solutions containing a very high proportion of alcohol, and especially with undiluted essential oils, we recommend checking how the bottle behaves on a small quantity. Strong solvents can damage the plastic.
Can the sprayer on the 50 ml bottle be used to spray oil or an emulsion?
No, the sprayer is intended for low-viscosity liquids. Pure oils, cream emulsions and gels will clog the nozzle or come out in drops instead of a mist. For oils, choose a bottle with a dropper or a pump; this set is suitable for thin water-based and alcohol solutions.
Why is the 50 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume because, once the sprayer is fitted, part of the space is taken up by the dip tube and the body of the mechanism, which push the liquid level upwards. The nominal volume allows for this reserve as well as for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will leak out through the thread when the closure is tightened and the bottle will not seal.
How do I clean the set before reusing it?
Rinse the bottle with warm water, spray clean water through the sprayer until only water comes out of the nozzle, and disinfect both parts with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave them to dry completely before filling again so that residual water does not dilute the recipe or put strain on the preservative.
