Product description

The amber PET medicine bottle with a volume of 50 ml and the white and silver fine mist sprayer make up a set for hydrosols, facial toners and refreshing sprays. The amber plastic reduces light, so it suits contents that lose their scent or effect in sunlight: hydrosols, toners, face and body sprays, diluted alcohol solutions, hair waters and herbal infusions for cosmetic use. The sprayer with a fine nozzle breaks the liquid into a mist, so the contents are applied evenly and without dripping.

Both the bottle and the sprayer are made of plastic, so the set is light and shatterproof. You can carry it in a handbag, on trips or in a gym bag. The 50 ml volume also fits in hand luggage.

How to use the set

The sprayer screws onto the thread of the bottle. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which is enough to moisten the face or a lock of hair, so the contents are used up slowly. The white plastic head is complemented by a silver aluminium element.

The sprayer is intended for thin, watery liquids. Hydrosols, toners, aqueous solutions of active ingredients, diluted alcohol tinctures or light hair waters pass through the nozzle without problems. The nozzle cannot atomise thick serums, gels, emulsions and pure oils, and they may clog it. For oil products, a dropper or a pump is more suitable.

The sprayer tube is longer than the height of the bottle. Before the first filling, shorten it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The sprayer will then draw up the contents down to the last millilitres and the tube will not kink.

Nominal volume and headspace

The 50 ml figure is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The actual volume up to the neck is slightly larger. The difference provides headspace for the sprayer tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, part of the contents will be pushed out when the sprayer is screwed on.

Good to know

The set as a whole is declared suitable for cosmetics. The amber medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, the sprayer does not, so the set is not offered for food purposes. For homemade oils, syrups or infusions, choose a bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.

Before the first filling, wash and rinse the bottle and the sprayer and disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then leave them to dry completely. Residual moisture in the packaging puts unnecessary strain on the preservative in the product. The same procedure applies to every further filling. Rinse the tube and the nozzle with clean water so that no residues of the previous contents remain in them.

For undiluted essential oils, solvents or other aggressive ingredients, we recommend testing how the packaging behaves with your specific formulation on a small sample. Do not expose the bottle to hot fills, or to heat from a radiator or a car in summer, as PET deforms at higher temperatures.

Hydrosols, toners and other water-based contents require preservation regardless of the packaging. The amber plastic protects against light, but it does not stop the growth of microorganisms in an unpreserved product.

The bottle goes into separate plastic waste collection as PET. Before disposal, unscrew the sprayer and dispose of it separately, as it combines polypropylene with aluminium. Closures with the same neck type as this medicine bottle and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 50 ml amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber plastic reduces light, so it suits contents that lose their scent or effect in sunlight. Hydrosols, toners with vitamins and products with essential oils keep their properties longer in an amber bottle than in a clear one. The packaging cannot provide complete protection, so the bottle should still be stored out of direct sunlight.
Can this sprayer be used for facial oil?
No, the sprayer in this set is intended for thin, watery liquids. Oils, higher-viscosity serums and emulsions will not be sprayed evenly through the fine nozzle and will clog it over time. For oil products, choose a medicine bottle with a dropper or a pump, both of which fit the same neck.
Is the medicine bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The amber medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the sprayer does not. If you need packaging for food use, for example for homemade oil or syrup, combine the bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How do I prepare the plastic medicine bottle with a sprayer before the first filling?
Wash the bottle and the sprayer, rinse them with clean water and disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Then leave both parts to dry completely with the neck facing down. Shorten the tube so that it reaches just above the bottom of the bottle, screw on the sprayer and press it several times to prime it until the contents start to come out as a mist.
Can I fill the 50 ml PET medicine bottle with an alcohol solution or a tincture?
Diluted alcohol solutions, for example toners or refreshing sprays containing ethanol, are common contents for this set. With a high concentration of alcohol combined with undiluted essential oils or other solvents, we recommend first testing how the packaging behaves on a small sample. Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals.
