Product description

The plastic bottle with sprayer is a ready-made pair for water-based and alcohol-based sprays: toners, hydrosols, facial mists, hair sprays and hand disinfectant solutions. The amber PET bottle reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it also suits hydrosols and herbal extracts, which lose their fragrance and colour faster in light. Plastic is light and unbreakable, so the 50 ml bottle copes well with being carried in a bag, with travel packs and with work in a workshop where glass is a nuisance. The white sprayer with an 18/410 neck finish dispenses the contents in a fine mist and is intended for the plastic bottle; it does not fit a glass one.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Toners and facial mists – thin water-based solutions with hydrosols, glycerine or water-soluble active ingredients, applied by spraying directly onto the skin.
  • Hair sprays – leave-in conditioner sprays, refreshing sprays with a hydrosol, sea salt solutions.
  • Alcohol-based sprays – hand disinfectant sprays, scented waters at a lower concentration, room fresheners. We recommend checking how the plastic behaves with a higher proportion of alcohol and fragrance on a test pack.
  • Test samples – the volume is enough to check the formula of a spray product before larger production or for customer samples.

The sprayer works with light liquids. Oils, thick serums or emulsions with higher viscosity do not pass through the nozzle or clog it. For such contents we recommend a bottle with a dropper or a cap with the same neck type.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The total brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is usually somewhat larger. The difference provides room for the tube and the body of the sprayer, which push part of the contents upwards once screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled spray overflows when the closure is fitted and sprays unevenly on the first press.

Preparation and filling

Before the first filling, wash the packaging, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Residual water in the bottle would dilute the contents and could reduce the microbiological stability of the product.

The sprayer tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube that is too long bends in the bottle and draws in air; one that is too short leaves part of the contents unused.

After screwing on the sprayer, pump it several times to prime it until the tube fills. Only then does it dispense evenly.

We recommend filling through a funnel or from a bottle with a narrow neck. The neck of the bottle is narrow, and the contents spill easily when poured from a pot or beaker.

Good to know

One dose from the sprayer is small, approximately 0.07 ml. This suits facial mists and toners, where the product is applied in a thin layer. When calculating consumption, allow for several presses per application.

PET is not intended for hot filling. Let the liquid cool to room temperature before filling, otherwise the bottle may become deformed.

Concentrated essential oils and some solvents may damage or cloud the plastic over time. For sprays with a higher proportion of fragrance, it is worth leaving a test pack to stand for several weeks and checking whether the bottle changes and whether the sprayer still dispenses correctly.

The bottle and the sprayer can be reused if they are washed and disinfected thoroughly after emptying. Rinse the sprayer with clean water before the next use and spray it through until empty, so that no residue of the previous contents remains in the nozzle. The sprayer mechanism is harder to clean than a smooth bottle, so when reusing it, check that it sprays evenly.

The bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of PP. Before disposal, unscrew both parts and sort them as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET limits the amount of light reaching the contents. It is therefore suitable for toners with hydrosols, herbal extracts or light-sensitive active ingredients. Reduced light slows the changes in fragrance and colour that light speeds up. It does not, however, replace a suitable formula and preservative system.
Is the plastic bottle with sprayer suitable for oil?
No, the sprayer is intended for thin water-based and alcohol-based liquids. Oils and thick serums are too viscous for the nozzle, so the spray is uneven or the nozzle clogs. For oil-based contents we recommend a bottle with a dropper or a cap with the same neck type.
Can I put an alcohol-based spray in the bottle with sprayer?
Yes, solutions containing alcohol, for example hand disinfectant sprays or scented waters, are commonly filled into PET. With a high proportion of ethanol and fragrance, we recommend checking how the plastic behaves and whether the sprayer is tight on a test pack, because concentrated fragrance components may cloud the plastic over time.
How do I prepare the plastic bottle with sprayer for filling?
Before first use, wash the packaging, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Shorten the sprayer tube with a diagonal cut to the height of the bottle so that it ends above the bottom. After filling up to the nominal volume, screw on the sprayer and pump it several times to prime it until the tube fills.
Is the bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the plastic bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the sprayer does not. If you need a spray for food use, check the suitability of the specific closure separately.
Why is the plastic bottle filled only up to the nominal volume?
Room must remain above the nominal volume level for the tube and the body of the sprayer. Once screwed on, they push part of the contents upwards, and an overfilled bottle overflows. The reserve also covers the expansion of the liquid at higher temperatures, so the spray dispenses evenly throughout.
