Product description

The amber PET bottle with a volume of 50 ml and a nasal sprayer form a ready-made set for thin water-based preparations that are applied in small doses as a fine mist. The amber plastic filters light, so sun-sensitive contents keep better than in a clear bottle. PET is light and does not break when dropped, which you will appreciate for packaging that is carried in a handbag or taken travelling. The nasal sprayer with 18/410 neck finish screws directly onto the neck of the bottle, and each press releases approximately the same amount of liquid. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

The nasal sprayer applicator delivers a precisely directed, very fine dose, so the set is best used for preparations where a small, repeatable amount matters.

  • Hydrosols and toners – thin water-based preparations pass through the sprayer without problems, and the amber bottle protects them from light.
  • Water-based solutions of active ingredients – serums without thickeners, solutions of peptides or vitamins that are dispensed one spray at a time.
  • Water and alcohol preparations – light refreshing sprays containing a proportion of alcohol; we recommend testing in advance how the plastic behaves at the specific alcohol concentration.
  • Samples and travel packs – the 50 ml volume suits a trial quantity, and the bottle takes up little space in a bag.

Filling and dispensing

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the volume the bottle is intended for with normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger, but this difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the neck. After filling, screw the sprayer on until it stops and prime the dip tube with several presses. Only then does it dispense evenly.

One press releases approximately 0.12 ml. You can use this figure when planning dispensing and when estimating how many applications one fill will last.

The sprayer is designed for thin, watery liquids. Thickened serums, gels or oils spray poorly through the narrow nozzle or clog it. Test the viscosity of your formulation on a single piece before you fill the whole batch.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect the bottle and the sprayer and let them dry completely. Flush the sprayer by pumping clean water through it, and then empty it with several presses so that no water remains in the dip tube. Repeat the procedure each time you reuse the set and check that the nozzle is not clogged with residues of the previous contents.

PET tolerates common water-based and water and alcohol cosmetic preparations. Undiluted essential oils and aggressive solvents can damage the plastic, so they belong in this packaging only in diluted form and after testing. In addition to plastic parts, the sprayer contains steel and glass components. Check compatibility with a formulation with a low pH or a higher salt content on a single piece before you fill a larger quantity.

The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle has a food-contact certificate on its own; the sprayer does not have one, so the set is intended for cosmetic preparations.

The bottle is made of PET and goes in the separate collection for plastics. The sprayer is made of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 50 ml amber plastic bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the penetration of light and slows its effect on the contents. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols, water-based solutions of vitamins and other preparations that lose effectiveness or change colour in light. The bottle does not provide complete darkness, so with very sensitive ingredients store it away from direct sunlight anyway.
How much liquid fits into the plastic bottle with a nasal sprayer?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml. Physically, a little more fits into it, but this space is needed for the dip tube of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle may overflow when the sprayer is screwed on or dispense unevenly when pressed.
Can the nasal sprayer be used for oil-based preparations?
No, the sprayer is intended for thin water-based and water and alcohol liquids. Oils and thickened serums have a higher viscosity, do not atomise into a fine mist through the narrow nozzle and over time clog it. For oil-based preparations, a cap with dropper or a pump designed for thicker contents is more suitable.
How do I prepare the plastic bottle with a nasal sprayer before the first filling?
Wash and disinfect the bottle and the sprayer and let them dry completely. Then pump clean water through the sprayer and pump it dry so that no water remains in the dip tube, which would dilute the contents. After filling, prime the dip tube with several presses and the sprayer will start to dispense evenly.
Is the plastic bottle and nasal sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the amber PET bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food on its own; the nasal sprayer does not have one. The set is therefore declared suitable for cosmetic preparations, where both parts meet the requirements for contact with cosmetics.
Why does the nasal sprayer not spray on the first press?
On the first press the dip tube is still empty and the sprayer must first be primed with the contents. Simply press it several times until the liquid reaches the nozzle. If it does not spray even then, the cause is usually a clogged nozzle or contents that are too thick to pass through the narrow opening.
