Product description

This 50 ml amber plastic medicine bottle with a glossy black and gold pump is intended for cosmetic products that are dispensed in small doses: face serums, light emulsions, face and hair oils or liquid creams. The amber tint of the PET reduces the amount of light passing through, which helps protect contents prone to oxidation, such as products with vegetable oils or sensitive active ingredients. The plastic is lightweight and unbreakable, so the bottle holds up well in the bathroom, in a handbag and while travelling.

The pump with an 18/415 neck finish has a black head, a glossy gold collar and a clear smoky overcap that protects the head from dust and accidental pressing. The contents are dispensed without opening the packaging, fingers do not come into contact with the product, and only the amount you have not yet used remains in the bottle.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face serums and concentrates – a small dose per press limits spillage and waste of more expensive products.
  • Light emulsions and liquid creams – thin to medium-thick textures pass through the tube and head without much resistance.
  • Face and hair oils – the amber bottle reduces light exposure and the pump allows you to dispense a small amount without drips running down the packaging.
  • Moisturising and soothing products for the eye and décolleté area – the 50 ml volume suits products that are used up slowly and in small amounts.

Thick creams, body butters and products with solid particles (scrubs, products with microparticles) do not belong in this set. The pump will either fail to push them through or become clogged over time.

Dispensing and working with the pump

One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of contents. The exact amount depends on the viscosity of the formulation: the pump draws thinner products more smoothly, while thicker ones may need more presses before the system is primed.

After filling the bottle, screw the pump on firmly, remove the smoky overcap and press the head several times until the product starts to come out. The first presses only push air out of the tube.

The pump tube is longer than the bottle itself. Before first use, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that, once screwed on, it reaches just above the bottom and does not bend. A tube that is too long will kink, and the pump will then draw in air.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for with normal filling. More would fit up to the neck, but this space is a reserve for the pump tube, the air cushion and possible expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on, and the set will then leak.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and pump in warm water with washing-up liquid, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Pump clean water through the pump and air-dry it.
  • Filling – pour in the contents once they have cooled to room temperature. PET does not tolerate hot filling and the bottle could become deformed.
  • Material sensitivity – the bottle should not come into contact with aggressive chemicals. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or organic solvents, we recommend testing in advance how the plastic behaves and whether the pump seals properly with your specific formulation.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be used again. Pump warm water through the pump until clean water comes out, and leave it to dry. If the mechanism draws in air or is stiff after cleaning, replace it.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and belongs in sorted plastic waste. The pump combines polypropylene and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

The declaration of suitability for direct contact with food and with cosmetic products applies to the bottle alone. The pump does not have such a declaration, so the set as a whole is not approved for food and is intended for cosmetic use. We recommend checking the compatibility of the pump with your formulation with a trial fill.

You will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of the bottle with other closures in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific contents.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 50 ml amber plastic medicine bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, the amber tint of the PET reduces the amount of light passing through and its effect on the contents. Only opaque packaging provides a complete barrier, but amber PET is sufficient for common serums, emulsions and face oils. We still recommend keeping products that are extremely sensitive to light out of direct sunlight.
How much product does the pump dispense per press?
Approximately 0.14 ml when the system is fully primed. The actual dose depends on the viscosity of the contents: the pump dispenses thin serums and oils accurately, while thicker emulsions may give less per press. After screwing it on, press the head several times to prime it until the tube fills with product.
Can the medicine bottle with a pump be filled to the brim?
No, it is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml. The space above this level is needed for the pump tube and the air above the contents. If it is overfilled, the product is pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on and the packaging stops sealing.
Is the plastic medicine bottle with a pump approved for contact with food?
The set is not. The declaration of suitability for direct contact with food applies to the amber PET bottle alone, and the pump does not have one. The bottle and pump set is therefore intended for cosmetic use, not for edible oils, syrups or other foods.
Can the pump be used for a face oil?
Yes, the pump normally handles liquid vegetable and face oils. We recommend testing in advance whether the mechanism seals properly and how it behaves with your specific oil, especially for blends with a high proportion of essential oils. Once the contents are used up, pump warm water through the pump so that no oil residue remains in the mechanism.
Can I reuse the bottle with a pump?
Yes, after thorough washing, disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and complete drying. Pump clean warm water through the pump until no product residue comes out. If the mechanism draws in air or is stiff after cleaning, replace it with a new one with an 18/415 neck finish.
