Product description
The amber plastic bottle with lotion pump, 30 ml, is designed for creams, facial lotions and thicker serums that are meant to be dispensed by pressing the pump head, without scooping with fingers or pouring. The amber PET dampens light, which helps protect contents with sensitive ingredients. The plastic is lightweight and unbreakable, so the set withstands travel as well as everyday use in the bathroom. The black pump with smoky overcap keeps the pump head covered while the product is not in use.
The set consists of a medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml and a lotion pump 18/415 with a dip tube that draws the contents up from the bottom. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, so the set is supplied ready for filling with cosmetic products. A volume of 30 ml corresponds to the usual size of an eye cream, a serum or a trial sample of a cream.
What it is used for
- Facial and eye creams – the pump measures out a small amount for a single application and the contents do not come into contact with fingers.
- Thicker serums and emulsions – contents with the texture of milk or a light cream are drawn up without problems.
- Products with sensitive ingredients – the amber plastic reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which is an advantage for formulations prone to oxidation.
- Samples and travel packs – the small volume and unbreakable material suit testers, gift sets or a cosmetic bag.
How the set works
The lotion pump works like an ordinary pump. When the pump head is pressed, the contents are drawn up through the dip tube and pushed out through the opening in the pump head. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which is enough for the eye area or for one layer of serum. For facial creams, two to three doses are usually used. After screwing the pump on for the first time, press the pump head several times without product until the dip tube fills and dispensing becomes consistent.
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference leaves room for the dip tube and the part of the pump that extends into the bottle, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill only up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will overflow when the pump is screwed on.
The pump dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that it reaches just to the bottom and is cut at an angle. The pump will then empty the contents almost completely.
The thickness of the contents determines whether dispensing will be smooth. Creams and emulsions that can be spread without resistance dispense well. Very firm balms, butters or gels with high viscosity may block the pump or may not be drawn up. If your formulation is at the limit of thickness, we recommend testing the dispensing on one bottle before filling the whole batch.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube or in the pump head would dilute the first doses and worsen the microbiological stability of the contents. The same procedure applies to repeated use: the dip tube and pump head must be rinsed with clean water until no cream residue remains, and then disinfected.
Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, check whether the bottle and the pump seal change in appearance or tightness after several weeks. Verify compatibility with your specific formulation.
The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The lotion pump does not carry such a declaration, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. If you need packaging for food use, choose a bottle with a closure that has a certificate for food contact.
Closures with the same neck finish and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
The smoky overcap of the pump protects the pump head from dust and reduces the risk of the pump being pressed accidentally in a bag. The overcap is removed before use and put back on after use.
The bottle and the pump are made of different plastics. Simply separate them before putting them in the recycling.
