Product description

A blue glass bottle with a capacity of 50 ml and a plastic lotion pump forms a ready-made set for face creams, light emulsions and body lotions, which are dispensed without opening the packaging and without reaching into the contents with your fingers. The pump with a black top dispenses the contents in small doses, so only the amount needed is taken with each use. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, which you will appreciate with formulations that do not benefit from light.

The bottle has a medicine bottle shape with a narrow neck, and the pump screws directly onto the thread. Both components, the glass and the pump made of polypropylene, are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. You will find the declaration of conformity with the product.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and eye creams – a small dose per press makes it easier to measure the amount for a single application, and the contents do not touch your fingers.
  • Light emulsions – thinner textures pass through the pump smoothly, and the 50 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size for daily care.
  • Higher-viscosity serums – gel or emulsion serums that would flow too quickly from a dropper are dispensed from the pump in a controlled way.

Dispensing and filling

One full press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of contents. The actual dose depends on the thickness of the contents; liquid emulsions come closer to this value than thick creams. You set the amount for a single use by the number of presses.

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total volume to the brim, stated in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow once the pump is screwed on, or the excess will get into the thread.

Before filling an entire batch, check how the pump behaves with your specific formulation on one test bottle. Very thick creams, butters and products with solid particles (scrubs, creams with powder pigments) can clog the pump or come out of it unevenly. For such a texture, a jar or a wider neck is more suitable.

Let the emulsion cool to room temperature before filling. After filling, press several times until the tube and the chamber fill up; the first doses are often incomplete.

Good to know

Before first use, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the pump with hot water, pump the water through it several times and let it drain with the tube pointing downwards, so that no water remains in the chamber.

Blue glass dampens light but does not block it completely. For this reason, store bottles containing a sensitive formulation away from direct sunlight.

With a higher content of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking after a few weeks whether the tightness of the pump or the smoothness of dispensing has changed.

The set can be used repeatedly. The pump is harder to clean than an ordinary cap, so when you change the formulation or after a longer break, unscrew it, pump hot water with a little washing-up liquid through it, then clean water, and let it dry thoroughly. For recycling, glass goes with glass, and the pump, once unscrewed, goes with plastics.

If you combine the bottle with a different closure or a pump with a different tube length, check that the tube reaches the bottom and that the thread seals. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made sets in the Handymade range.

Frequently asked questions

How much cream does one press of the pump on the 50 ml bottle dispense?
One full press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. The actual dose depends on the thickness of the contents; liquid emulsions come close to this value, while the pump draws up thick creams in smaller amounts. You therefore set the amount for a single use by the number of presses and check it on a test bottle when using a new formulation.
Can the blue bottle with a lotion pump be filled with a thick cream or butter?
This pump is not recommended for thick creams and body butters. The mechanism is built for textures that flow towards the tube on their own; it cannot draw up solid contents, or dispenses them in lumps. A jar is more suitable for a thick consistency. Check how your specific formulation behaves on one test bottle before filling an entire batch.
Up to what volume should the 50 ml glass bottle with a lotion pump be filled?
It is filled up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The difference between the nominal volume and the total volume to the brim is a reserve for the tube and the pump mechanism and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the contents will overflow once the pump is screwed on and will clog the thread.
Is the bottle with a lotion pump also suitable for liquid oils?
The pump is designed for creams and emulsions. It works with thin oils, but the dose is usually larger and the pump may drip after pressing. A bottle with a dropper is generally more suitable for face oils. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking the tightness and the smoothness of dispensing after a few weeks.
How do I clean the lotion pump for repeated use?
Unscrew the pump, pump hot water with a little washing-up liquid through it, then clean water, and let it dry with the tube pointing downwards. Wash the glass bottle, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. Residues of the old formulation in the pump chamber could otherwise spoil the new contents.
