Product description
The glass pharmaceutical bottle with lotion pump, 15 ml, is intended for small packs of cream and gel products where an accurate dose and protection of the contents matter. The amber glass filters light, so it is also suitable for formulations with more sensitive ingredients, such as vegetable oils, vitamins or extracts. The black plastic pump dispenses the contents without removing the cap, so during use fingers and air do not get into the bottle to the same extent as with an open jar.
The small volume makes this set particularly suitable for eye creams, concentrated serums with a cream texture, spot treatments for minor blemishes, travel packs and customer samples. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and Handymade issues an EU declaration of conformity for the packaging.
What the set is suited for
- Eye creams and décolleté creams – a small dose per press corresponds to the amount normally applied to these areas.
- Serums and gels with a thicker texture – the pump also draws up gel products, so the contents do not have to be poured out or scooped with a spatula.
- Concentrated creams with active ingredients – the dark glass slows the effect of light and the closed system limits contact with hands.
- Samples and travel packs – the bottle is filled from a larger batch and the pump works the same way as with a full-size pack.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling, in this case 15 ml. The total brimful volume is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck and is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on and soil the thread.
Filling and working with the pump
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Fill the emulsion only after it has cooled to room temperature.
The dip tube of the pump is longer than the bottle itself. Before filling, it is shortened with a sharp diagonal cut so that it reaches just above the bottom. The diagonal cut prevents the end of the tube from sticking to the bottom and the pump from ceasing to draw up the product.
After screwing on the pump, press the head several times over a bowl until the system is primed and begins to dispense evenly. The first presses push out only air, which is normal behaviour for any pump with a dip tube.
The pump is designed for cream and gel textures. The tube will not draw up very thick balms, butters or solid anhydrous products. With thin liquids, such as oils or toners, the dose is dispensed, but check that the contents do not leak around the head during transport. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml, from which you can estimate how many doses the pack will provide.
Good to know
The level of the contents cannot be seen through the amber glass. When making your own products, it is therefore worth noting the filling date and bearing in mind that weaker dispensing means the pack is running out. A small remainder below the end of the tube cannot be pushed out by the pump; you can get it out only by unscrewing the pump.
After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The pump has an internal mechanism that is difficult to clean from the inside, so consider a new one when you change the formulation.
For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the pump with your specific formulation in advance, especially the tightness and smoothness of dispensing.
The glass part goes in glass recycling, while the pump is made of polypropylene and is recycled separately as plastic.
