Product description
The clear PET bottle, 100 ml, with a black flip top cap is a ready-made set for liquid and gel cosmetic products that are dispensed in small amounts: shower gels, shampoos, cleansing gels, toners, thinner body lotions, or massage and hair oils. The clear plastic shows the contents and their colour, so you can see at a glance what is in the bottle and how much is left. PET is light and does not break when dropped, so the bottle is suitable for the bathroom, for travel and for customer samples.
The flip top cap opens with one finger and the contents flow out through a small opening in the cap. You do not need to unscrew the bottle: simply squeeze it, dispense the amount you need and snap the cap shut again. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone; the cap does not have it, so the set is intended for cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
- Rinse-off cosmetics – shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and cleansing gels. They can be dispensed with one hand directly in the shower, and the flip top opening releases only as much as you squeeze out.
- Toners and facial waters – thin water-based products that are applied to a cotton pad or into the palm. They are dispensed more precisely through the opening in the cap than from an unscrewed bottle.
- Oils – massage, body and hair oils in a volume of 100 ml, where it helps that the contents do not pour out all at once.
- Travel packs and samples – the 100 ml volume suits smaller batches, trial versions of formulations, or decanting from a larger pack for a holiday.
Thick creams, butters and balms are difficult to squeeze out through the flip top opening. For such textures, a jar or a bottle with a different type of closure is more suitable.
Filling and dispensing
The value of 100 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume and leave the space under the neck free. An overfilled bottle is harder to close and, when squeezed, the contents may leak around the thread.
For the first batch, measure exactly 100 ml of water and note where the level reaches in the bottle. This point then serves as the filling mark for the finished product.
Dispensing through the flip top works best with products that flow by themselves or after a gentle squeeze of the bottle. The flexible PET wall returns to its original shape once released. Very thin water-based products flow out quickly, so it is worth squeezing the bottle carefully.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash both the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the bottle would dilute the product and weaken the preservative system.
Hot products do not belong in PET. After production, leave emulsions and gels to cool to room temperature and only then fill them, otherwise the wall of the bottle may become deformed.
Concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents may damage the plastic. Before filling a whole batch, leave a trial sample in the bottle for several weeks and observe the wall of the bottle, the tightness of the cap and the scent of the contents.
Clear plastic does not filter light. It is better to fill products with light-sensitive active ingredients or with oils prone to oxidation into amber or blue glass, or to store the clear bottle away from direct sunlight.
Once empty, the bottle can be washed, disinfected and filled again. Before reuse, check that the cap still snaps shut properly and seals well. The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP; separate them before disposal, as both belong in plastic recycling.
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you are creating your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
