Product description

An amber plastic medicine bottle with a capacity of 115 ml and a black flip top cap is designed for liquid and gel cosmetic products that are dispensed in small amounts and handled every day. The lid is flipped open with the thumb, the contents flow out through a small opening, and the bottle is closed again with one hand. There is no need to unscrew the cap with each use, which is particularly handy in the shower or at the sink.

The amber colour of the material reduces the penetration of light, so light-sensitive contents are better protected than in a clear bottle. PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so the bottle is suitable for the bathroom, for travel and for customer parcels. The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle alone has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set with the flip top cap is intended for cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Shower gels, shampoos and conditioners – rinse-off products where the lid can be flipped open even with a wet hand.
  • Liquid soaps and cleansing gels – a small amount of the contents is dispensed directly into the palm.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – thinner emulsions pass through the cap opening, thick creams and butters do not; those belong in a jar.
  • Facial toners and micellar waters – water-based products that are applied to a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Massage and body oils – for oils with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend first checking how the material behaves with one filled sample.
  • Smaller packs for testing a formulation – the 115 ml capacity makes it possible to give customers or testers a product without filling a large bottle.

Flip top cap and dispensing

The cap is screwed onto the neck once and the thread is not handled again; it is opened only by flipping up the hinged lid. The opening is small and the contents are dispensed by tilting or gently squeezing the bottle. With thin water-based products more flows out at once, while with gels and emulsions the amount is easier to control. How easily the bottle can be squeezed depends on the wall thickness and the viscosity of the filling; with thicker emulsions it is worth testing the behaviour before you fill the whole batch.

Before carrying the bottle in a bag, we recommend checking that it is leak-tight: place the filled and closed bottle on its side or upside down on a paper towel for several hours. With very thin liquids the lid may let a drop through; in that case a screw cap is more suitable for travel.

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely upside down. Residual water would dilute the filling and put a strain on the preservative system.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 115 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Filled up to the neck, it physically holds more; this difference forms a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. With a flip top cap the reserve has one more purpose: an overfilled bottle overflows when the lid is first flipped open and the filling gets into the hinge.

Good to know

  • PET and heat – let emulsions and gels cool to room temperature before filling, as a hot filling may deform the bottle wall. Do not leave filled bottles in a car in the sun or next to a radiator.
  • Essential oils and solvents – plastic does not tolerate aggressive chemicals. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or alcohol, we recommend testing the bottle first with the finished formulation and checking after several weeks whether the material has become cloudy or softened.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and drying, the bottle can be filled again. Check the hinge and the lid of the cap; if you change the type of filling, it is better to use a new one.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters fit the neck, and you can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP. Separate them before disposal and rinse the emptied bottle.

The set with the flip top cap is not approved for contact with food. The bottle alone has the food certificate, so for food use follow the parameters of the chosen closure.

Frequently asked questions

Is the amber plastic 115 ml bottle with a flip top cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The bottle alone has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the black flip top cap does not. The whole combination of bottle and cap is declared as suitable for cosmetic products, which is what it is intended for.
Does the amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the material reduces the penetration of light into the filling, and the contents are better protected than in a clear bottle. It is therefore suitable for products with vegetable oils, extracts or vitamins, which lose their effectiveness in light. The colour does not replace complete darkness, so store filled bottles away from direct sunlight.
Can the 115 ml flip top bottle be filled with oil or a product containing essential oils?
Yes, vegetable and massage oils can be filled into the bottle and they dispense well through the opening in the cap. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or alcohol, we recommend testing the bottle first with the finished filling, because the plastic may react to more aggressive ingredients by softening or becoming cloudy.
Does the flip top cap seal when carried in a bag?
With gel and cream fillings the flip top cap normally holds, but with very thin liquids the lid may let a drop through. Before a trip, we recommend placing the filled bottle on its side on a paper towel for several hours. If any moisture appears, choose a screw cap for carrying and keep the flip top for use at home.
Is the 115 ml bottle filled right to the brim?
No, the bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 115 ml, not up to the neck. The space above this level is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle overflows when the lid is first flipped open, and the filling gets into the hinge of the cap, where it is difficult to clean.
