Product description

A plastic bottle with a flip-top cap, 150 ml, is a ready-to-use complete packaging for liquid and medium-viscosity cosmetic products dispensed by squeezing through a small opening. It is particularly suitable for shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps and body lotions.

The bottle is made of PET, a lightweight plastic suitable for the bathroom, shower and travel. The cap opens with one hand and seals the opening when snapped shut.

How the set works in use

  • Dispensing – the contents are squeezed out by gently pressing the bottle through the opening in the cap. This allows a smaller amount to be measured out than when pouring freely from a wide neck.
  • One-hand opening – the flip-top part remains attached to the cap, so nothing is set aside or lost during use. This is especially practical with products used in the shower.
  • Visible contents – the transparent wall shows coloured, layered and pearlescent products. It also shows how much is left and whether the product changes over time.
  • Low weight and durability – PET does not shatter when dropped, making it suitable where glass would be a hazard.

Which products it is suitable for

A flip-top cap works best with products that flow on their own or with gentle pressure on the bottle. In addition to shampoos and shower gels, these include cleansing milks and thinner gels. Very thick creams, butters and balms are difficult to squeeze through a small opening and residue sticks to the walls — for these, a jar is more suitable. Very thin liquids such as toners or hydrolats flow out of the opening quickly and are harder to dose; a spray works better there.

Both the bottle and cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set does not have food-contact certification and is intended for cosmetics, not food.

Nominal and total volume

The 150 ml figure is the nominal volume, meaning the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling conditions. The total volume up to the brim of the neck is slightly larger. This difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes.

Thicker products are easier to fill using a funnel or a container with a spout. After filling, allow the contents to settle for a moment to let air bubbles escape before closing the bottle.

What to know before filling

Container preparation. Before first use, wash both the bottle and cap, rinse and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Then allow them to dry completely so that residual water does not enter the product.

Filling temperature. PET is sensitive to heat, so the bottle should not be boiled or sterilised with hot water.

Hot contents can deform a PET bottle. Fill products processed at elevated temperatures only once they have cooled to room temperature or are just slightly warm.

Light. The transparent wall does not protect the contents from light. Store the filled bottle away from direct sunlight.

Compatibility with contents. Common water-based, surfactant and emulsion products are well tolerated by PET. With a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend first performing a test with a small amount.

Label and alternative closure. The round wall is suitable for self-adhesive labels; the dimensions needed for label design are listed in the parameters. Closures with the same neck type (stated in the parameters) and other ready-to-use combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing behaviour and container compatibility with the specific formulation.

Recycling. An empty, rinsed bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste collection.

Frequently asked questions

Which products are suitable for the 150 ml plastic bottle with a flip-top cap?
The 150 ml plastic bottle with a flip-top cap is suitable for liquid and medium-viscosity cosmetic products such as shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, conditioners and body lotions. The contents are dispensed by squeezing through a small opening. Very thick creams and butters are difficult to squeeze through the opening, while very thin liquids flow out too quickly.
Does the transparent PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a transparent PET bottle transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. It is suitable for products that are not affected by light, or for those stored in a cupboard or in a bathroom away from direct sunlight. Products containing plant oils prone to oxidation, natural colourants or sensitive active ingredients are better filled into a coloured container.
Can a warm product be filled into a PET bottle with a flip-top cap?
Hot products should not be filled into a PET bottle, as heat can deform the plastic. Shampoos, shower gels and lotions manufactured at elevated temperatures should first be allowed to cool to room temperature or until just slightly warm. For the same reason, the bottle should not be boiled or sterilised with hot water before filling.
Why is the 150 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 150 ml because the space above it acts as a reserve. The total volume up to the brim of the neck is slightly larger, and this difference is needed for the cap and for the contents, which expand at higher temperatures. A bottle filled to the brim may leak when closing or when warmed.
Is the PET bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for products containing essential oils or alcohol?
At typical cosmetic dosage levels of essential oils in water-based, surfactant and emulsion products, a PET bottle is used without issues. With a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, the plastic may become cloudy, soften or change shape. In such cases, we recommend filling a small amount of the product first and monitoring whether the bottle shows any changes.
Can the plastic bottle with a flip-top cap be reused?
Yes, the plastic bottle with a flip-top cap can be refilled after thorough cleaning. Wash both the bottle and cap with warm water and a cleaning agent, rinse, disinfect and allow to dry completely. Pay particular attention to the opening and the cap flap, where product residue tends to collect. Do not reuse a scratched or deformed bottle.
