Product description

A plastic bottle with a flip-top cap is a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products dispensed by squeezing the bottle: shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, body lotions, conditioners or micellar waters. The transparent PET is lightweight and shatterproof, making it suitable for the bathroom, shower and travel, while also showing the colour and consistency of the contents. The cap opens with one hand and snaps shut to seal the opening, so the bottle does not need to be unscrewed with every use.

The bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml and a matte white cap form a single unit, with no need to find a closure with a matching neck. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Rinse-off products – shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps and conditioners are dispensed through the flip-top opening by gently squeezing the bottle, without spilling.
  • Body lotions and thinner emulsions – liquid to medium-thick textures flow smoothly through the opening. Thick creams and butters are difficult to dispense by squeezing; a jar is more suitable for those.
  • Tonics, micellar waters and cleansing gels – the transparent wall makes it easy to see how much product remains and whether its appearance is changing.
  • Travel sizes and samples – lightweight shatterproof plastic and a snap-close cap are practical for carrying.

How the flip-top dispenses and seals

The cap has a hinged lid with a pin that snaps into the dispensing opening to seal it when closed. The amount of product dispensed is controlled by the force applied when squeezing the bottle, so dosage depends on the viscosity of the contents. Very thin liquids flow out quickly and need to be dispensed carefully; thick gels require a firmer squeeze.

Before filling a larger batch, it is worth testing one bottle with the finished product. This will show whether the contents flow at a suitable rate and whether the cap seals properly when tightened and snapped shut, even in a horizontal position.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling conditions. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the closure and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle may force contents into the thread and cap when closing or when heated, which reduces the seal quality.

Good to know

  • Preparation before filling – it is recommended to wash and disinfect both the bottle and the cap with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow them to dry completely. Water residues inside the container increase the risk of microbial contamination of the product.
  • Filling temperature – PET must be protected from heat. Products prepared hot should only be filled after they have cooled down.
  • Label – the smooth cylindrical wall is easy to label. The bottle dimensions needed for label design are listed in the parameters.
  • Recycling – both the bottle and the cap are plastic and should be placed in the sorted plastic waste collection once empty.

Concentrated essential oils, fragrance oils and solvents may degrade the plastic with prolonged contact. The bottle is intended for finished cosmetic products in which these ingredients are diluted. Glass is more suitable for storing pure essential oils.

Closures with the same neck type (stated in the parameters) and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available from Handymade.

Frequently asked questions

Is a plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for shampoo and shower gel?
Yes, a plastic bottle with a flip-top cap is suitable for shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps. The product is dispensed by squeezing the bottle through the opening in the cap, which opens and closes with one hand. PET does not shatter when dropped, which is practical in the shower. For very thick gels, we recommend testing in advance to check that the contents can be squeezed out comfortably.
Can a hot product be filled into a PET bottle?
No, hot contents should not be filled into a PET bottle. The material softens at high temperatures and the bottle may deform. Products prepared hot, such as emulsions, should be left to cool and filled only afterwards. Filling at a lower temperature also reduces condensation of water under the cap.
Does a transparent plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, transparent PET transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. For most shampoos, gels and body lotions this is not an issue as long as they are not stored in direct sunlight. For products containing oils prone to oxidation, botanical extracts or natural colorants, light may alter the colour and scent over time, so it is advisable to store them in the dark.
Can a plastic bottle with a flip-top cap be reused?
Yes, both the plastic bottle and the flip-top cap can be refilled after thorough cleaning. The packaging should be washed with warm soapy water, rinsed, disinfected and allowed to dry completely. Particular attention should be paid to the opening and the cap lid, where product residue tends to accumulate. Scratched or deformed packaging is best replaced.
Is a plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for food?
No, this set is intended for cosmetic products and has not been approved for contact with food. Neither the bottle nor the cap has a declared suitability for contact with food — only suitability for contact with cosmetics is declared. For syrups, oils or other foodstuffs, we therefore recommend choosing packaging with food-contact suitability stated in the parameters.
