Product description

A plastic bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a matte black cap is a ready-to-use set for liquid cosmetics dispensed by pouring directly from the neck. Transparent PET reveals the colour and clarity of the contents, is lightweight and won't shatter if dropped. It suits the bathroom, travel and shipping alike.

The tall, slim shape sits comfortably in the hand and takes up little space on a shelf. The polypropylene cap screws onto the 24/410 neck and has no dispensing aperture, so once opened the contents pour freely. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Watery and thin products – tonics, facial waters, micellar waters and hydrolats pour easily from the neck onto a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Rinse-off cosmetics – shower gels, shampoos, liquid soaps and bath foams; unlike glass, plastic won't break in the shower.
  • Oils – body, massage and cleansing oils, where the transparent wall is an advantage as it shows both the colour and the remaining volume.
  • Travel sizes – a lightweight bottle with a tightly screwed cap travels easily in a toiletry bag and ships well in a parcel.

Thick creams, butters and balms are difficult to fill and remove through a narrow neck. A jar is more practical for those.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold during normal filling. Total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides headspace for the closure and for expansion of the contents with temperature change. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. This reduces the risk of the contents overflowing when opened or forcing the cap off during transport. Exact values are listed in the product specifications.

Preparation and filling

Before the first use, wash the bottle and cap with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid, then rinse thoroughly. Afterwards, spray or rinse with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the bottle unnecessarily burdens the preservative system and has no place at all in anhydrous oil-based products.

PET cannot withstand hot filling or boiling; at higher temperatures it softens and deforms. Fill the contents only after they have cooled down and do not wash the bottle with boiling water or in a dishwasher.

A small funnel or a beaker with a pouring spout makes filling through a narrow neck easier. Tighten the cap by hand with reasonable firmness – excessive force unnecessarily strains the thread.

What's worth knowing

  • Light – clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. Sensitive products are best stored in a cabinet or a box, or a dark container should be chosen for them.
  • Compatibility with contents – PET tolerates aqueous and oil-based cosmetic contents as well as typical alcohol-containing formulations. For unusual formulations, a compatibility test with the specific product is recommended.
  • Label – dimensions needed for label design are listed in the specifications. For oil-based products, it is advisable to degrease the surface with alcohol before applying the label so it adheres properly.
  • Recycling – the PET bottle and the PP cap are recyclable plastics and once empty should be placed in sorted plastic waste collection.

Before filling an entire batch, it is worth filling one bottle, closing it and leaving it on its side for a day. This will show whether the cap seals properly with that particular product during transport.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear 100 ml plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. For tonics, shower gels or shampoos this is usually not an issue. However, vegetable oils prone to oxidation, hydrolats and products with light-sensitive active ingredients are better stored in the dark – for example in a cabinet or a box – or a dark container should be chosen for them.
Is the 100 ml plastic bottle with a black cap suitable for food use?
No, the set is intended for cosmetics, not for food. The bottle and cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; suitability for contact with food is not declared. For syrups, cooking oils or other food products, please choose packaging that explicitly states food-contact suitability in its specifications.
Is the 100 ml PET plastic bottle suitable for oils and alcohol-containing products?
Yes, PET tolerates vegetable oils and typical cosmetic formulations containing alcohol, such as tonics or facial waters. Caution is advised with undiluted essential oils, very high alcohol concentrations and solvents, which may degrade the plastic over time. In such cases, it is advisable to leave a filled bottle standing for several weeks and monitor whether the wall shows any changes.
Can the plastic bottle with a black cap be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be refilled after thorough cleaning. The process is the same as before first use: washing with lukewarm water and washing-up liquid, disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and complete drying. Hot water and dishwashers deform PET. A bottle with scratches on the inside, a cloudy wall or a lingering odour from previous contents should be discarded.
Can the cap on the 100 ml plastic bottle be replaced with a pump or a spray?
Yes, any closure with the same 24/410 neck size can be fitted to the bottle, including a pump or a spray. When swapping, check the length of the dip tube, which should reach just above the bottom of the tall bottle. We also recommend verifying the seal and dispensing performance with the specific product. Closures with the same neck size and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range.
