The waxes category includes both vegetable and beeswaxes suitable for balms, creams and candle making. Different melting temperatures and hardnesses allow the texture and surface of the final products to be fine-tuned.
The range includes beeswax, carnauba wax, candelilla wax and rice wax, as well as specialised soy and blend waxes for candles, including types for container candles, pillars and scented waxes for aroma lamps.
The right combination of waxes will achieve the desired hardness, shine and adhesion to the container. For an overview of properties and tips for use, see below and in the article Waxes and their comparison.
Beeswax firms balms and creates a protective film; Carnauba wax increases hardness and shine; candelilla wax is a popular vegan alternative; rice wax improves texture and stability. Balanced consistency and protective effect in balms, ointments and creams. For more information, see Beeswax White 100 g, Beeswax Yellow 100 g, Carnauba wax 100 g, Candelilla wax 100 g and Rice wax 500 g.
Soy waxes for container candles hold fragrance and adhere well to the glass; blends (e.g. rapeseed/coconut) optimise the surface and burn. Solid surface, excellent adhesion and stable fragrance in glass containers. The complete range can be found in the Candle Waxes section and in the products Golden Wax 464 5 kg or KeraGreen Container 5 kg.
"Pillar" blends are designed for freestanding candles and make it easier to remove from silicone moulds without cracking the surface. Smooth surface and clean separation from the mould at the correct pouring temperature. For more information, see EcoSoya Pillar Blend 5 kg and KeraSoy Pillar 4120 5 kg.
Special waxes for melted scented waxes are formulated for easy removal from the mould and a strong 'hot throw'. Maximum perfume release and easy tipping out of the mould.See Golden Wax 494 1 kg, EcoSoya Melt 1 kg and Canola/Coconut Wax 1 kg; for a wider selection, go to the Scented Wax Production section.
For candles, use scents proven to burn; several essential oils are also compatible. The correct wick type and length is crucial for a stable result. Strong fragrance and safe burning with the correct dosage and wick. For relevant items, please refer to the Candle Fragrances section and the Candle Making category.
Beeswax, candelilla wax, carnauba wax or rice wax are used for balsams; soy wax and blended waxes are used for candles, depending on the type (container, pillar, scented waxes). When choosing, observe the melting point and hardness of the wax.
Normally 5-10% as recommended for the specific scent and wax type. Check the wax description for compatibility and do a burn test on a small candle with each new combination.
Depends on the type of wax; manufacturers give a guideline of 55-65°C for "pillar" blends and ~60°C for many soy blends. Adjust room temperature and procedure to minimize time on high heat.
Complete documentation is available for each wax - Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Certificate of Analysis (Atest) and technical data for use.
