Rinse the container with a suitable cleaning agent, then with clean water and allow it to dry. Before the actual filling, it is necessary to disinfect the packaging – for this purpose you can use, for example, isopropyl alcohol or ethanol at the recommended concentration, such as the products IPA 99 % and plant-based ethanol available on Handymade. Only after the alcohol has completely evaporated and the bottle has dried can it be safely filled with the final formulation.

The glass bottle is suitable for repeated use when handled correctly. However, with every refilling it is necessary to observe basic hygiene principles: clean the bottle and the spray applicator, rinse them thoroughly and disinfect them before the next use. For disinfection we recommend using isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, for example products available on Handymade in the alcohols category. Disinfection is important to minimize the risk of microbial contamination and to maintain the stability of your product during storage.

If you decide not to use the packaging any further, we recommend sorting it into the separated collection system according to the material. After emptying and basic rinsing, the glass container is usually sorted into the container intended for glass (according to local collection rules – clear or coloured glass). The spray mechanism and plastic parts should be separated and placed with plastics, if the collection system in your municipality allows this. The spray applicator is especially suitable for low-viscosity, free-flowing formulations – aqueous solutions, hydrolates, toners, light serums, hydroalcoholic solutions, as well as interior and textile sprays. With thicker and oil-based products, atomization may deteriorate or the nozzle may become clogged, so we recommend first testing a small sample of the product. When developing the formulation, monitor the texture, whether the product is sprayed evenly and whether any unwanted leakage or drying occurs within the mechanism.
