Product description
A glass dropper bottle in glossy black with a capacity of 50 ml is a packaging option for products dosed drop by drop that benefit from light protection. Opaque black glass shields the contents from light, making it particularly suitable for facial serums, oil blends with essential oils, herbal tinctures, and active-ingredient concentrates that lose stability when exposed to light. The dropper with a tamper-evident ring allows precise dispensing without spillage and also indicates that the packaging has not been opened before first use.
The set consists of a glass vial and a black dropper with a glass tube, the length of which is matched to the height of the bottle. It reaches almost to the bottom, so the contents can be used up without unnecessary residue. The complete set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle has a food-contact certificate on its own; the dropper does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
Why choose black glass
- Light protection – opaque glass shields the contents from light, slowing the oxidation of oils, the evaporation of essential oils, and the degradation of sensitive active ingredients such as vitamin C or retinol.
- Chemical stability of glass – glass does not react with the contents or with solvents, making it suitable for oil-based, alcohol-based, and water-based preparations, including blends with a higher proportion of essential oils that could damage plastic packaging.
- Precise dosing – the dropper draws up and releases the contents drop by drop, which is practical for serums and concentrates where only a small amount is used per application.
- Tamper-evident ring – when first opened, the ring separates and the customer can see that no one has opened the product before. For small-scale producers, this is a simple way to build trust without additional packaging elements.
- Glossy surface – glossy black glass looks uniform across a product range and works well with light or gold labels.
What the set is suitable for
A volume of 50 ml corresponds to a standard-size facial serum, oil elixir for face and hair, herbal tincture, essential oil concentrate, or a drop-application product for external use. The dropper works well with thin and medium-viscosity contents that can be drawn into the glass tube. Thick gels, creams, or preparations with solid particles are not suitable for the dropper, as they clog the tube and result in imprecise dosing.
Black glass also conceals the contents. This is an advantage for preparations that gradually change colour over time, but it may be a disadvantage if the customer needs to see how much product remains. It is therefore worth considering whether light protection or visibility of the fill level is more important for a given product.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed for regular filling. Total volume to the rim is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a margin for the inserted dropper tube, which displaces part of the volume, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled to the neck, the contents would overflow when the dropper is fitted and could contaminate the thread, impairing the seal.
Before fitting the dropper, ensure the thread on the bottle neck is clean and dry. Residues of oil or tincture on the thread reduce the seal and may cause the cap to loosen over time.
What is worth knowing
Before filling for the first time, it is recommended to wash both the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow them to dry completely. Residual moisture in an oil-based or anhydrous preparation promotes microbial growth and shortens its shelf life.
The bottle and the dropper have the same thread type and are sold as a matched set. If using a different closure with the same thread type, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation. Additional closures with the same thread type and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range.
The contents are drawn only into the glass tube; the dropper bulb should not come into contact with the liquid. Store the bottle in an upright position, not on its side.
Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle; allow them to cool to at least room temperature first. Glass will not withstand impacts and drops onto hard surfaces; when shipping, it is advisable to account for protective padding.
The packaging can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. Rinse the dropper with alcohol and allow it to dry; the bulb should not be soaked for extended periods. The glass bottle goes into glass recycling; the dropper, being a combination of plastic, silicone, and glass, should be sorted according to local guidelines.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume and insert the dropper carefully so that the glass tube does not strike the bottom forcefully. The long tube reaches deep, and if inserted carelessly, it may chip.
