Product description

This glossy black 10 ml glass bottle with a plastic dropper insert and a white cap with an 18/410 neck finish is used for packaging small quantities of liquid preparations that are dispensed drop by drop. The black glass hides the contents and protects them from light. It is particularly suitable for essential oils and their blends, facial oils, concentrated serums, perfume oils and samples. The set is supplied as a whole, and both the dropper insert and the cap are matched to the neck of the bottle, so you do not need to buy them separately.

What the set is suitable for

The small volume and dark glass suit preparations that are used slowly and drop by drop. The colour of the contents is not visible, so the packaging looks uniform regardless of what is inside.

  • Essential oils and blends – with the dropper insert you can measure an exact number of drops into a diffuser, a massage oil or a formulation.
  • Facial and hair oils – suitable for oils that are sensitive to light and oxidation.
  • Concentrated serums and active blends – contents that are applied in a small amount are dispensed without pouring.
  • Perfume oils and samples – a common size for testing a fragrance or for customer samples.

How the set dispenses and seals

The short dropper insert is pushed straight into the neck of the medicine bottle. When you tilt the bottle, one drop at a time comes out. The cap is screwed onto the 18/410 thread and presses against the dropper insert, which also prevents the contents from leaking out on their own when the packaging is turned upside down in a bag or a parcel.

The dripping speed depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin essential oils and alcohol solutions drip quickly, while thick oils and serums with glycerine drip more slowly. For your own formulation, we recommend checking that it dispenses the way you need.

Before first filling, wash the bottle, the dropper insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the dropper insert can spoil anhydrous contents.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the volume the medicine bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference provides a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the neck once inserted. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, the dropper insert will push the contents out when you insert it.

Good to know

The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the dropper insert and the cap do not have one.

We do not recommend this set for homemade oils, syrups or herbal infusions. The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food and is intended for cosmetics.

The dropper insert is made of polypropylene and the cap of polypropylene and polyethylene. For concentrated essential oils, alcohol solutions or preparations containing solvents, we recommend checking how the dropper insert behaves with your specific formulation, for example whether it changes shape and whether it still seals.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the medicine bottle can be reused. The dropper insert is removed from the neck by pulling; when cleaning it, rinse it with warm water and ethanol. If it has changed shape or no longer fits tightly, replace it, otherwise the packaging will stop sealing. Glass is sorted as glass waste and the plastic parts as plastic.

You will find other closures with the same 18/410 neck finish and ready-made bottle + closure combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black glass covers the contents and does not let light through to them. It is therefore suitable for essential oils, vegetable oils and serums, which lose their scent or oxidise when exposed to light. The disadvantage is that the amount of remaining contents cannot be seen through the wall of the bottle, so you need to check the fill level after pulling out the dropper insert.
How many ml fit into a 10 ml medicine bottle with a dropper insert?
You fill it to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The total brimful volume is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the neck once inserted. If you overfill the bottle, the dropper insert will push part of the contents out of the neck when you insert it and the outside of the packaging will get dirty.
Is the black bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the plastic dropper insert and the cap do not have one. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is intended for cosmetic preparations, for example oils, serums and essential oil blends.
Can the dropper insert be used for essential oils?
The polypropylene dropper insert is used for dispensing essential oils and their blends drop by drop. For concentrated essential oils, alcohol solutions or contents with solvents, we recommend checking how the dropper insert behaves with your specific formulation, for example whether it changes shape and whether the cap still seals after you screw it on.
How do you clean a glass medicine bottle with a dropper insert before reusing it?
Pull the dropper insert out of the neck, wash all three parts in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse them, disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let them dry completely. For oil residues, it helps to rinse first with ethanol, which dissolves the oil. Replace a dropper insert that no longer fits tightly after cleaning with a new one.
