Product description

The black glossy 30 ml glass medicine bottle with a short dropper insert and a white smooth cap is a ready-made packaging solution for dispensing liquid preparations drop by drop. The black glass limits the light reaching the contents, which helps with facial oils, oil-based serums, essential oil blends and tinctures whose ingredients lose potency or change scent when exposed to light. The glossy black surface combined with the white cap gives the packaging a contrasting look.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the dropper insert and the cap do not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.

How the set works

  • Glass bottle – the main part of the packaging; the black glass limits the light reaching the contents.
  • Short dropper insert – a plastic PP insert pressed into the neck of the bottle that releases the contents drop by drop when the bottle is tilted. Dispensing is more precise and the contents come into less contact with air and fingers.
  • White smooth cap – a threaded closure that is screwed onto the neck over the dropper insert and seals the packaging.

What it is suitable for

The 30 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size of a facial serum or facial oil, which is used up within a few weeks. The dropper insert dispenses liquid to slightly thicker contents: oil serums, blends of carrier and essential oils, hair or nail oils, tinctures, and hydrosol and water-based serums with lower viscosity. The dropper insert is not suitable for creams, gels or thick balms, as the contents would not flow through it.

Glass does not absorb the scent of the contents, so the bottle is also suitable for your own essential oil blends or perfume concentrates.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 30 ml is the quantity the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brim volume listed in the parameters is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper insert, which extends into the neck, and for slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

Check the level of the contents before fitting the dropper insert. If the bottle is filled too high, pressing in the dropper insert pushes the contents out through the neck and soils the thread, which impairs the seal of the cap.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the dropper insert and the cap with alcohol and leave them to air out. Residual water in the packaging shortens the stability of anhydrous oil-based products.

The set can be used repeatedly. The dropper insert can be washed after removal from the neck, but with oil contents a thin film settles in it that is harder to remove than from glass. When changing the contents, especially from fragranced to unfragranced, it is simpler to replace the dropper insert.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes, so do not pour hot contents into it. With a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic dropper insert behaves with your specific formulation.

Closures with the same neck type, listed in the parameters, and other ready-made bottle + closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific contents.

Black glass also hides contents that naturally change colour over time, for example vitamin C serums. The appearance of the product therefore stays the same for the customer throughout use.

The glass belongs in glass recycling, the dropper insert and the cap in plastic recycling. Separate the individual parts from each other before sorting.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black glass limits the light reaching the contents. It is therefore suitable for oils, serums and essential oil blends whose ingredients oxidise or change scent in light. Glass does not block heat, however, so do not store the packaging in the sun or near a heat source.
How much does the bottle with the dropper insert actually hold?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The remaining reserve in the neck is needed for the dropper insert, which is pressed into the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The total brim volume is listed in the parameters of the packaging.
Is the set with the dropper insert suitable for thick serums or creams?
No, the dropper insert only dispenses liquid to slightly thicker contents. Facial oils, oil and water-based serums with lower viscosity, or tinctures flow through it drop by drop, but thick serums, gels and creams do not. For thicker products, we recommend choosing a bottle with a different closure combination or a jar.
Can the glass medicine bottle with the dropper insert be used for food?
The set as a whole is not intended for food. Only the glass bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact; the dropper insert and the cap do not. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is suitable for facial oils, serums and aromatic blends.
Is the 30 ml medicine bottle suitable for essential oil blends?
Yes, glass does not absorb the scent of the contents, and the black colour also protects the blend from light. With pure essential oils or blends with a high proportion of solvents, we recommend checking how the plastic dropper insert behaves with your specific blend, for example whether it softens or leaches. When changing the blend, it is simpler to replace the dropper insert with a new one.
