Product description

A clear PET bottle with a volume of 150 ml and a white and gold pump with overcap forms a ready-to-use packaging set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed in small amounts. The clear plastic shows the contents and how much remains, so it is suitable for serums, facial lotions, light emulsions, toners and body oils, where customers like to see the colour and purity of the product. The bottle is light, which anyone who ships products by post or takes them travelling will appreciate. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; it is not intended for food.

How the set works

The bottle has a 24/410 neck finish and the pump is designed specifically for this thread. One press of the pump releases approximately 0.2 ml, which corresponds to a dose of serum or a small amount of facial lotion. With thicker products, the volume of a single dose may differ slightly.

The white and gold head gives the packaging a look that suits skincare even without decorative outer packaging. The overcap protects the head from dust and dirt during transport and on the shelf, and is simply removed before use.

The pump is made of a combination of polypropylene and aluminium, and the bottle is made of PET. The two parts can be unscrewed from each other, which makes both refilling and cleaning easier.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial serums – both water-based and oil-based; the small dose of the pump corresponds to the usual amount for a single application.
  • Facial lotions and light emulsions – a liquid to medium-thick consistency passes through the dip tube without any problem.
  • Body and massage oils – dispensing without spills and without fingers touching the contents.
  • Toners and facial waters – when application should be more precise than with a sprayer.
  • Liquid cleansers and makeup removers – a small dose is enough for a cotton pad.

Thick creams and butters are not suitable for this pump. The pump will not draw them up, or it will clog.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Physically, slightly more fits into it up to the neck. This difference is a reserve for the dip tube of the pump, the air above the surface and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on.

The dip tube of the pump is longer than this bottle requires. Before the first assembly, shorten it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom. An angled cut does not stick to the bottom, and the pump empties the contents almost completely.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle and the pump, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely. The disinfectant solution is pumped through the pump several times so that it also reaches the dip tube and the valve.

On first use, the pump needs to be primed with several presses without dispensing until the contents reach the head. This is normal with pumps that have a dip tube.

PET does not tolerate higher temperatures. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not leave it in the sun or near a heat source. Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light, so for light-sensitive products we recommend darker packaging or storage away from direct light.

For oils with a high proportion of essential oils, for products with a larger amount of alcohol, or for those with solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation beforehand. The compatibility of plastics with such ingredients cannot be guaranteed in general.

The set can be used repeatedly. Before each new filling, both parts are taken apart, washed and disinfected in the same way as for the first use. When discarded, the PET bottle goes into plastic waste; the pump contains plastic and aluminium, and we recommend separating it from the bottle.

If this pump does not suit you, the bottle can be combined with other closures for the 24/410 neck finish, which you will find in the Handymade range together with other ready-made sets. When making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the clear PET bottle with a pump suitable for a facial serum?
Yes, the set with a volume of 150 ml and a pump dose of approximately 0.2 ml is designed for facial serums. The small dose corresponds to the amount for a single application, and the contents do not come into contact with your fingers. Light-sensitive serums, for example those with vitamin C, are better filled into dark packaging or stored away from direct light.
Can the plastic bottle with a pump be used for body oil?
Yes, the pump draws up liquid and medium-thick oils without problems, and PET is compatible with common vegetable oils. For oils with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend first checking the behaviour of the packaging in a small test. The pump will not draw up thick butters and mixtures that solidify.
Why does the pump not dispense anything on the first press?
A pump with a dip tube needs several presses without dispensing on first use until the contents rise through the tube to the head. This is normal behaviour for pumps of this type. If the contents do not rise even after several presses, check that the dip tube reaches the bottom and that the pump is not screwed on loosely.
How much fits into a bottle with a nominal volume of 150 ml?
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 150 ml, not to the brim. The space above this level is a reserve for the dip tube of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents run out through the neck when the pump is screwed on.
How do I clean the plastic bottle with a pump before reuse?
Separate the bottle and the pump, wash both parts with warm water and a cleaning product, disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave them to dry. Pump the disinfectant solution through the pump so that it passes through the dip tube and the valve. Do not use hot water for cleaning, as PET deforms at higher temperatures.
